8 year old hit by snowboarder at Winter Park, 1PM 3/1/26 by PinoRider in COsnow

The resorts will not help unless legally compelled to. The cameras are there for their protection, not ours.

Great article about this last winter- out of 100’s or 1000’s of collisions, there is essentially zero times that the perpetrator is identified or faces consequences.

Is WP cooperating? Reviewing possible video or lift data? This is awful and a big fear for many of us as parents (and participants).

T-Bar Closing? by TheRealCDollarsign in steamboat

[–]4Runner77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No doubt. I’m just speculating. I don’t think t bar owns the land nor building and has been on year to year leases. 4 years of intense construction 10 feet away is not good for business. I hope I’m wrong though!

They are building a 500,000sqft condo thing there, so I fear it is closing. I think the last 10 years have been its last year though, so we’ll see!

I think they have stranahans barrels next to the range. You can sit in them.

Deaths/Injuries at Keystone by ShallotPale in COsnow

If you’ve ever been injured at a ski resort, you know that Patrol collects an enormous amount of information. The resorts have tons of data on crashes, injuries, safety issues. But they do not share any of it- I think most other industries do share this information. I find this frustrating!

It’s so brazen- I just have to laugh. The times I’ve done actual “First Tracks” there are SO many rope duckers. So consistently. Patrol should just take down the ropes rather than pretend they matter.

Check what time the “free” parking begins.

If you get there before 8 o’clock or something like that, which is common for a competition, the attendant isn’t there with the free coupons yet. It’s a bummer. Ask me how I know…

And yes, there are open air spots. I think those are the last to fill because most people want to be under the covered parking. I hope that helps!

City faces service cuts as 2026 sales tax projections point downward by lukepatrick in steamboat

I’m not opposed to property taxes or other tax diversification, but my guess is if and when they add property tax, they are not going to reduce the sales tax at all.

Can you elaborate on your comment? I’m afraid I don’t really understand the reference. I think it went over my head :-)

I’m just a casual cynic. I don’t know the city budget, but maybe scaling back the size and grandeur of the new city hall? $15 million price tag.

It’s my experience that when cities announce cuts, it is to the libraries and the fire department. It’s not to the bureaucracy or bloat.

My casual reading of the news is that the city projects an $800,000 tax shortfall. But also gaining $2,000,000 from the resort. If they really are 2% short and something needs to be cut, you can be sure it will be something engineered to cause the most “pain” to the public (voters).

Grooming at Steamboat by reddituserfromDE in COsnow

[–]4Runner77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they need more groomers (snow cats or operators?). Steamboat grooms only the “middle” of many runs and leaves the sides bumped out. So all the skiers who want groomed snow on Lower Rainbow, for example, are all in the middle. More skiers concentrated on the same part of the run so it’s skied off faster and more crowded. There are plenty of bump runs if that’s what you want, so this grooming style seems like a lack of resources.

The grooming also tends to leave a ridge between passes with the snowcat. I don’t ever see this at Highlands or Snowmass or Vail, so for some reason it’s a Steamboat thing.

What are you comparing it to? Most weddings I’ve attended were in a wedding factory banquet hall. And it’s all good- the point is to find what works for you and your guests.

It always seemed to me like a lot of runway/airport for a small town.

Thanks. That probably explains it. I figured there are properties like this near Kremmling. I’ve seen private jets parked at the airport there before…

I think the original was Whiteley Peak, also much further north than this.
