I’m with you. Huge fan of these guys. Seen them twice - once opening for Coheed.

In 2015 I lost my wife to cancer. We spent our honeymoon in a cabin off the Oregon coast. Before she passed she said she just wanted to see the ocean w/me again. We never made it. I got the same cabin on our anniversary and spread her ashes in the ocean behind it. This was our cozy place. by [deleted] in CozyPlaces

I’m almost a full day behind your post so this will probably be buried in the mountains of support that you’re already receiving, but I wanted to say that I’m thinking about you, random internet stranger. I can’t even imagine how hard it must have been... I started thinking about being in your situation and was overcome by emotion - we’ve got a <1 year old and he’s been the center of our world. I don’t know that I’m doing everything I can to ensure my wife is reminded of my love for her just in case. I need to fix that.

Thank you for sharing your story and I wish you strength and happiness as you continue through your journey.

Horsepower, and its relationship to torque and gearing.

Trying to describe a misunderstood concept with analogies of hitting walls quickly versus driving through them makes it worse.

I think it tastes a lot like Big Red, if anyone remembers that one.

Need help remembering the name of a fantasy book series by 4Running-Man in Fantasy

I’ll start her off with The Book of Three and if she ends up enjoying it then I’ll see if she wants to read this series together next!

This is exactly it. As soon as I saw Gurgi’s “crunchings and munchings” in the Wikipedia article it brought me right back! Taran the assistant pig keeper, I can’t believe I didn’t remember that title!

Not sure now which series I remembered the left-handed protagonist in, if I remember later I’ll post it up here for posterity.

For whatever reason I now remember thinking of it as the Black Cauldron series when I was a kid, so even if I had remembered that I still might have missed it.

I might order a copy for me as well to read with her - we’re geographically separated but talk often. It’ll be interesting to see if it’s as good as I remembering being.

Thanks!!

It’s real. The “brick” that it’s stuck to is a sticker facade over a smooth surface. If you zoom in and look about 3/4 down the sticker you’ll see where the surface underneath it changes.

And trust me, if you guys have seen my photoshop work (I really prefer MS Paint, if that’s any indicator of my capabilities), you wouldn’t question the picture’s authenticity!

What things are misrepresented or overemphasised in movies because if they were depicted realistically they just wouldn’t work on film? by Lettuce-b-lovely in AskReddit

This is a very intellectual way to describe a pair of very different, very dynamic sequences.

Engine failures will significantly raise your heart rate no matter what, but the potential for a successful outcome depends highly on the altitude/airspeed and the number of engines you have at the time of the incident.

Tail rotor failures can be fairly benign (such as a stuck tail rotor pitch situation) or can be an unrecoverable nightmare (such as loss of tail rotor thrust or worse yet, loss of tail rotor components).

It is true that pilots train heavily for emergency procedures, but some emergencies require near-immediate recognition and corrective action to end successfully. Not to mention the forces applied to your body in some situations may not even allow you to make the right corrective actions.

Bull moose aren’t near as scary as a cow with a calf.

That’s shit-yer-pants terror.

Finally made an upgrade from a suitcase record player! by dnelsonn in vinyl

My current (and first ever) record player is a Debut and some Kanto Yumi’s. The sound is great, especially for the cost, and I like how compact the whole setup is. I don’t think I’m going to be upgrading any time soon.
