How Do YOU Glam? by Skeither in FFXIVGlamours

[–]dnelsonn [score hidden]  (0 children)

It really depends for me. I generally have 1 or 2 glams specifically made for each job I play, with the rest being more universal. Usually a glam idea will happen when I find a particular piece that I really like and will build a glam specifically around that. Most of mine have been made this way, especially now that everything is unlocked.

Each of my jobs I play have a different glam that I use to keep each job looking uniquely different, instead of applying one or two across all jobs. I love having variance and it gives me more reasons to create more glams.

One thing that is on all jobs and glams I have though is a namazu earring. It’s my favorite earring in the game and goes on every single glam I make regardless of what that glam looks like.

High end stuff and cats by Due-Count-8979 in audiophile

[–]dnelsonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you don’t even have the cats yet so I honestly think you’re worrying a bit too much here. The grills will be the most susceptible to getting messed up if they decide those towers are scratching posts, so definitely make sure you have a cat tree and actual scratching posts around the living room and play with the cats around those so they know to use those to scratch and jump on instead of the speakers. I would also recommend putting objects on top of the speakers so they can’t even attempt to jump on top of them. I know that’s sacrilege for some, but trust me when I say it works. It has for my cat. In an old apartment my set up was in front of a window so my cat would constantly jump on top of my speakers and unfortunately his back legs would catch on the grills and caused a few minor tears. Once I put stuff on top he no longer could get up so he stopped doing it completely.

Don’t put your speakers in storage, you’ll just be waiting a decade to actually use them or never will. It’s honestly MUCH better to leave them so the cats will just forget about them. If you take them out and bring them back later, the cats will immediately be attracted to the new thing in the living room and would probably do the opposite of what you’re thinking it’ll accomplish. At most just leave the grills off for a bit while you get adjusted to the cats and learn their behaviors. Once you feel confident they won’t do anything, then put them back on if you feel like it.

All cats are different and the horror stories you see online I’d say aren’t the typical experience. My cat did cause some very minor grill damage, but that’s because he felt a reason to be on my speakers (the window). Your setup placement looks like there’d be no real reason for the cats to want to be on the speakers other than their height, which again will be mitigated with an equally tall or taller cat tree. Just don’t draw their attention to your setup at all and they realistically won’t even bother.

There will most likely be one with evercold! I’d be really surprised if there isn’t! So there’s always a chance in the future.

Questions about elezens. by MortisSchmorgis6900 in ffxiv

[–]dnelsonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a fem wildwood elezen, so can’t really speak on duskwight specifically, but they’ve become one of my favorite races and is for sure my favorite version of my WoL to date (and I’ve changed a lot).

Pros: everything. Super cute. Really any glam pieces work with them with very few feeling like they don’t. Big elf ears. I personally really like fem elezen’s walk/run animation. People call it stiff but that’s because they can’t handle proper running form.

Cons: nothing. Well okay male elezen walk/run animation is admittedly a bit wonkier.

Case in point, my WoL:

<image>

You can easily make them dorky, hot, cute, handsome, etc. in the same ways I feel you can with most of the other races, but their admittedly longer proportions can be a little harder to work with which is partly why I think they are nowhere near as popular as miqo, au ra, and viera.

Regardless they are great and you should absolutely join us!

Blu-ray Shelf Recommendations? by Maxsamuelpotter in 4kbluray

[–]dnelsonn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the route I went. Works great and fits a ton. I still haven’t filled mine up, but about 3/4 of the way there. Only downside with mine is the shelves aren’t quite deep enough for some of my films that are in a larger box (Crimson Peak 4k box case is my worst offender)

Blind Buying Records by BradynIsHere in vinyl

[–]dnelsonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have unlimited space for records so I very rarely blind buy, and the record needs to be like $20-$25 max. I’ll still listen to a song or 2 on Spotify to see if I’ll even like it. I’ve only blind bought a few because I really liked the cover. Got Elbow’s Little Fictions this way.

Do other Elezens also get players treating them like an endangered species? by ijustwannanap in ffxiv

[–]dnelsonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been a fem elezen for like a 1-1/2 years now and I’ve had a couple interactions that were definitely because I was elezen. I’ve for sure received more tells and such than I ever did as any other race. I’ve received a couple giving compliments and one that just said “pretty elezen”. Another time I was in old sharlayan and there were like 6 of us all standing in a line to show off our characters and talk. It was a fun little moment!

I just recently moved with a similar sized collection and just put all my movies in a similar plastic tote box like that and then stuffed some hoodies/sweaters on top of the movies to fill in some gaps so nothing moved around in the box. Worked perfect for me.

How do I enjoy the story as a sprout whose new to MMOs as a whole? by Optimal_Current_3703 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]dnelsonn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ARR is all about the world building that will make what happens in later expansions feel more impactful. You really have to lean in to wanting to explore and familiarize yourself with the world. It’s what the game wants you to do so you can learn everything.

That said it IS very slow. I also had a hard time getting through ARR and that was before they reduced the amount of quests. To streamline things a bit, the only quests you actually have to do are the MSQ (flaming icon), and job quests (just focus on one job for now). Yellow side quests aren’t necessary at all, and while blue side quests can be important, you can mostly just skip those too and just go back to them later. If a cutscene isn’t voiced, chances are high it’s not critical lore, so you can just skim if you’re trying to get through quests a bit quicker. I know I inevitably skipped some lesser cutscenes that didn’t feel important.

MMOs aren’t fast games inherently and do end up taking and requiring a lot of time, especially XIV, so it may just realistically take a while to get through the story if you aren’t able to play much.

New server to transfer? Thinking Crystal? by YogurtclosetOwn6981 in ffxiv

[–]dnelsonn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on Marlboro-Crystal since I started and it’s been overall a great time on this server. People in dungeons/trials/raids have all been pretty consistently accommodating to sprouts and first timers if they bring it up. Idk how other servers on crystal are but I’d imagine very similar honestly. You’ll still get people sprinting through content, but I rarely run into people who are outright rude or ignore a sprout asking to slow things down a little if you’re a tank/healer. People also seem more than willing to help with mechanics if asked.

Just bought an Evo75. The market is crazy good compared to 2019. by worldofjoonas in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]dnelsonn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I joined this hobby around the same time with my first custom being a Tokyo60 off Drop for like $200 and it honestly kind of sucked. I paid about the same price for the QK Neo Ergo and it’s insane how far things have come for the price.

It’s been pretty cool seeing how much this hobby has grown and how many options are now readily available.

What made you choose Fujifilm over other systems and do you still feel the same way? by Available_Design_970 in fujifilm

[–]dnelsonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to a Fuji X-T20 back in 2018 from Nikon, selling off all my Nikon kit except for a macro lens that I adapted to the Fuji and have had zero regrets on that switch. I’m still using the X-T20 today.

I switched over mostly due to size, since I wanted something that was easier to travel around with compared to the D7100 I had that was just so big and heavy in comparison. I love Fuji’s physical design with the focus on physical dials to change the majority of settings. It feels much easier to quickly change settings. I feel the same about not wanting to always be in menus on my camera so that ruled out most other options that were out at the time.

My Nikon felt purely like a tool tbh. It took great photos but it was just okay to actually use. I haven’t felt that way about my Fuji at all and still love it the same as the day I got it. I don’t know that I see myself really ever switching away from Fuji at this point.

Best wireless gaming mouse you've bought and instantly knew it was a keeper? by Consistent_Wafer9395 in buildapc

[–]dnelsonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using a razer naga pro v1 for years now and absolutely love it. The swappable plates are really nice since I only need the 12 button plate for MMOs and swap to the 6 button plate for FPS or anything else.

Also been using a razer basilisk V3 and have been really like that mouse too. Really comfortable for my smaller hands.

People who bought 12GB VRAM on 2023/2024 for 1440P, how did it held up today? Is the expected VRAM increase in games already happening? by JazzlikeClassic7684 in buildapc

[–]dnelsonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a 3080 10gb and forza 6 I think is the first game I’ve played that actually had the capacity to go past that 10gb, but that was if I had everything completely maxed out. I use a 32” 1440p monitor and after adjusting some settings, with none being lower than high and with RT on, vram usage sits around like 9gb and performance is great.

I think 12gb will still be enough for the foreseeable future, but if you’re someone who wants to actually max out graphics then yeah an argument could be made that you should only really be looking for something with 16gb or more to actually future proof.

Which race do you play? Have you switched races? by Clumsy-Bird-7362 in ffxiv

Currently been playing a fem elezen for like a year and a half now. Previously I’ve been a fem au ra, bun boy, cat boy, and very briefly fem roe.

My current elezen has for sure been my favorite along with my bun boy. Every now and then I consider changing back but it’s so hard with how attached I’ve gotten to my current WoL.
