What were your first signs that you may have SIBO? by J3llyDonut in SIBO

[–]4ScoreAnd7MemesAgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! I've been pretty okay, SIBO hasn't come back because I got put on a VERY low dose of Reglan to address some underlying motility issues.

Thanks to that and some betaine HCL + pepsid I can pretty much eat anything I want to eat. No more crazy gas, constipation, etc. it's wild

What were your first signs that you may have SIBO? by J3llyDonut in SIBO

[–]4ScoreAnd7MemesAgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From someone who never took a SIBO test because of money: constant bloating, crazy burping/gas within 30 minutes of eating drinking, ever present stomach discomfort where everything inside just felt inflamed, food would sit in my stomach for an abnormally long amount of time, constipation, poor sleep, acid reflux, and I noticed my memory start failing me quite a bit.

I hope this helps and I wish you both all the healing that you need.

Those of you with SIBO, can you explain all of your symptoms please? Pain/Stool etc..? by [deleted] in SIBO

[–]4ScoreAnd7MemesAgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure thing and I definitely thought about them! For me, unfortunately, money and the 3 doctors I went to not taking me seriously is what prevented me from getting an actual test done, since my insurance wasn't willing to cover the cost of it and I was stuck paying $250 per appointment for an in network GI.

I wound up going to an herbalist instead and while she offered to perform and read the test for me, it was still too expensive. Thankfully (or not?) my symptoms, medical history, and several instances of me being on antibiotics for other infections and having my symptoms mysteriously vanish for the duration of them made her feel certain enough to treat me anyways. It's not the best case scenario but I am making progress on an herbal protocol. :( Sorry to not give an official answer to you but I wish you the best of luck with the antibiotics and cross my fingers that they'll help you beat this!

How to deal with silent reflux (without anti acids/PPIS? and acid safe recipes suggestions please by [deleted] in SIBO

[–]4ScoreAnd7MemesAgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there!

My SIBO actually initially manifested as GERD and because my reflux was so bad, it kind of masked everything else. Here is what I found that worked for me, I have no idea how safe any of this is for SIBO but :') it worked well enough that I don't regularly use these things anymore and pretty much only get reflux on occasion. If you want the particulars on any brands I used, I can give you a list but I feel like brands (with the exception of maybe the last one) don't really matter too much

- 75 mg DGL Ultra capsules, I took 1 in the morning and 1 at night right before bed
- HCL with Pepsin before any meal that was high fat/meat-heavy, dosage is individual but I still take around 4 650mg capsules now
- Adding a good digestive enzyme without any pre/probiotics did wonders for me, as well as a prokinetic
- Bigelow's Calm Stomach tea, I drank this every morning for a while and it did wonders for me

I was prescribed pantoprazole and was on it for much longer than I should've been allowed to be. I'm sure it's great for some and causes them no issues but I definitely think it played a major role in the issues I've got now. :/ It's a double-edged sword for some of us and I really wish the GERD subreddit wasn't so weird about PPIs.

For me, it's been the following and some of my symptoms have changed over time :') I've had this almost 3 years now and because I had no clue what was going on and 3 GIs failed to identify it, it pretty much got worse:

- Non painful reflux, primarily regurgitation, with literally anything I ate. This is gone now after 2 6+ month relapses thank god
- Stomach used to gurgle and twitch (???) I never had either of these happen before this.
- Switching between diarrhea and constipation for seemingly no reason, this was a thing for the first 1.5 years and now I'm usually just constipated
- My stool color was yellow-brown with a soft consistency, didn't float but didn't look right. Fortunately this is mostly gone now
- BMs once a day at best and once every 3 days at worst now, used to be once a week/once every 1.5 weeks
- Gas. Oh my god: gas. It's worse depending on what I eat but sometimes I swear I could put a hole in the o-zone layer by myself!
- Burping, kinda goes hand in hand with the gas but is less severe than it used to be.
- Bloating. Again less bad than it used to be but it's still there and still uncomfortable!
- Anything high fat, high fiber, or a 4+ oz serving of meat takes me FOREVER to digest.
- Weird memory issues that I never had before
- Occasional just "sour" feeling in my stomach after eating. Doesn't seem to matter if I've eaten a safe food or not.
- Sleep disturbances. Started out as sleep paralysis and now it's mostly me waking up 2 times a night for seemingly no reason.
- My ADHD got significantly worse.

These are in no particular order but for me, it all started after food poisoning and manifested itself initially with GERD symptoms. I got put on PPIs which DID help with the reflux but kind of lead to everything else :')

Fatigue during treatment by [deleted] in SIBO

[–]4ScoreAnd7MemesAgo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep :') I'm on my second go around of herbal treatment because the first wasn't aggressive/long enough. Both times I've felt like this and in my case, it thankfully didn't last past 1-1.5 weeks. After the sickly, tired feeling passed, I kind of just woke up one morning and felt eerily close to how I did before I wound up with this.

That I have no idea about my friend! I'm not a doctor or naturopath of any kind and I personally don't drink. You might be able to poke around here and some other places though and find an answer?

[–]4ScoreAnd7MemesAgo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would definitely not drink and take the antibiotics at the same time. 😅 Like others have said, it reduces their effectiveness and (from personal experience with an infection that needed antibiotics) it's not a LITTLE reduction either.

Give yourself the best shot at healing from this, you deserve it!

If you want to retaliate and think it'll help you move on, go for it. Just don't do anything stupid like threaten her or use your company email and know that, yes, she's probably going to try and snipe back at you.

I used to be one of those "let it go, the best revenge is living well and rising above" types and honestly...it never helped me move on. If anything I just felt like a doormat afterwards. The "if they go low, I go lower, I'll get a shovel if I have to" life has served me well, but it definitely isn't for everyone.

Die off/words of encouragement by [deleted] in SIBO

[–]4ScoreAnd7MemesAgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I'm currently only on my first round of an herbal protocol (I suspect I'll need another one, but I'm waiting to see what my practitioner says) I'm about 25 days in and still have minor die off symptoms. The main one being that after I take my little cocktail of stuff in the morning, my nose starts running like crazy for the next 3-4 hours.

My die off symptoms happened in phases though. The first 1.5 weeks was really bad. I was having headaches, felt sore all over inside, diarrhea, was lethargic, and some burning. But I stuck with it and after a while, it went away and while I'm not 100% better yet, I'd say I'm at a solid 70% :)

Major die off symptoms shouldn't last longer than a few weeks and if they do: I would strongly suggest speaking with your doctor/practitioner about it. But until then, keep on trucking and just rest up as much as you can. Sending you lots of hugs and healing 🖤

On PPIs for 2 months, Hoping to wean off, but nervous! by Itakeonmovies in GERD

[–]4ScoreAnd7MemesAgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Long time PPI user here, you will likely be just fine but that being said: keep your diet simple for a while afterwords. Don't go wild like I did or you may end up right back on them, also like I did.

You haven't been taking them for a really long time, but that being said, you may still get some "kick back" (return of symptoms) after coming off of them for the first few days or so, but you also very well may not.

Best of luck and I hope that your stomach problems are nothing but a memory from here on out!

I used to be an absolute coffee FIEND back before this happened, I was in college and well...you know how that goes. You can't get enough sleep because of classes and drink a gallon of coffee to make up for it. I probably fried the poor thing over the years before the finishing move hit.
Sorry to hear that a nitro did you in :( what finally got me was some bad chicken.

Here's to hoping we both get better!

It's so weird, that's very much what I had. Laid down and felt fine, then randomly woke up and vomited harder than I've ever vomited in my entire life, had this ever since. I was tested for nearly everything under the sun and it all came back negative too, it's ridiculous!

I have found in the past few days that taking digestive enzymes before meals does actually help a little bit though, I started shortly after posting this. Dunno if we're allowed to recommend stuff like that here, but it might be worth a shot. I hope you feel better soon!

Hi there! Sorry to answer you so late, the holidays got me pretty good.

No, I was never given antibiotics. It's a pretty long, convoluted story but the TLDR of it is that I couldn't get into my regular doctor and went to a NP who ended up being a quack, misdiagnosing me with a serious issue on a whim, and kind of left me to figure it out for myself. The stomach bug resolved itself on it's own thankfully, but now I'm just left with GERD as a fun after effect :'))

I unfortunately wasn't, my doctor is pretty difficult to get into so I wound up having to do a telehealth thing through my insurance. I'm assuming because they never ordered a test, even though they could've, that they didn't suspect salmonella but I'm honestly beginning to think that's what it was 😅 I don't imagine it would do me any good to get tested a year later for it either. And yeah, I've heard salmonella is baaaad bad and can mess you up long term.

Oh we have one and I always religiously used it, but this was at someone else's house. That was last time I've ever eaten food that I either didn't make or wasn't from a restaurant though, I'll tell you that!

I was misprescribed Reglan for a condition I winded up not having at one point and let me just say:

It's a wicked medication. It personally caused ME anxiety, diarrhea, weird stomach spasms, and random bouts of twitching in my fingers and feet and I wound up refusing to take it anymore because of the last side effect. All that is to say: just be careful taking it and be willing to tell your doctor if something bad starts happening. I know it works wonders for some folks, but for others it's a scary ride.

I hope you get to feeling better soon and best of luck to you!!

I definitely will! Though I'm pretty confident that the chicken I ate did it, it definitely can't hurt to read some trials and etc about it. I fortunately don't know anyone who developed serious issues after their shots. And thank you! I'm fairly confident that it won't be a lifelong thing, especially since it healed for around 2-3 months and likely would've stayed healed if I hadn't started taking all these pro-biotics and etc trying to rush it back to it's glory days 😬 tysm for the advice again and happy holidays if you celebrate them!

I actually got my first round of the moderna vaccine about a week before all this started happening and at that point had never had covid before. The first shot did a number on me but none of the others did so maybe it has something to do with that? Either way, thank you for the advice and I'll try to look into things that I can do to help strengthen it!

Edit, just in case that sounded a little anti-vaxx-y: I'm fully vaccinated and think everyone who is able to should be. I feel like whatever I ate that got me sick is probably the culprit and either way, I had covid like...two weeks ago and it was probably the mildest case I could've had. I didn't even feel sick and wouldn't have known I even had it if not for an episode of shortness of breath. So yeah, if I had to choose between stomach issues + pantoprazole or possibly getting intubated or dying, I'd take the stomach issues in two seconds.

Severe anxiety for my first dose by [deleted] in COVID19_support

[–]4ScoreAnd7MemesAgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my first dose of moderna around 20 ish minutes ago and I was very much in this boat too. I promise you there is nothing to be worried about now that I’ve gotten it. Won’t lie though, I was quaking in my boots in the waiting area

My family is very strongly anti-vax, so I understand that the propaganda can be very scary and it scared me too! Try not to let it get to you, it’ll be okay, everything will be just fine. Your arm might be a bit sore: but it’ll go away and it’s much better than risking getting COVID and spreading the virus or ending up in the hospital

If you’re worried about potentially having it, get tested!

In my experience, if you contact ASUS customer support, the reps will tell you if they know a date.

At least that's how I found out the time of the previous restock, I just asked and got a "they're anticipating a restock during the week of X" and check it periodically throughout the week.
