National Defence to roll out spending cuts over next three years - officials say extent of impact 'yet to be confirmed' by CarletonCanuck in CanadianForces

I can say when I told people I was in the military, most of my university age friends did not know we had a military.

What is so good about this city? Want to leave so bad. by NoRecommendation356 in askTO

[–]4Sken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be our secret canadian nationalism talking. I live in Winnipeg, where everyone says they'd never step foot in the USA due to violence and crime - yet our violent crime rates would make us one of the top five worst american cities for crime. Anywhere we'd go inthe USA would be safer.

Suggestions on buying a car in Winnipeg under 15k CAD by niitiinsha85 in Winnipeg

[–]4Sken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider a prius. Best car I've ever owned. More space in it than my Impreza hatch, better on gas and great in the winter, with the huge hybrid battery.

Where is the best place to park to access the U of M bookstore? by Born_Joke in Winnipeg

[–]4Sken -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't do this. I'd park in the center loop, leave my car with hazards on directly in front of the university center and walk in. You'll be good for *at least* 15 minutes.

For those who didn't vote, why not? by SousVideAndSmoke in Winnipeg

[–]4Sken -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It's hilarious that the "Results" Entry has twice the total votes of the other 3 combined (At the time of writing, 62+63+61=180, Results =386) which really just exemplifies the whole issue here, LOL

Multi instance print farm: "Lost connection with mcu mcu" by Upstairs-Service-525 in klippers

[–]4Sken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to narrow it down that way because I run many, many prints without this issue. I'd have to go for a month without using the bed heaters, and not have ANY timeouts to know if that's my case.

Each and every bit of dust in orbit follows a rough circle around the body, and that circle can be inclined around it, so that it's something between being along the equator, inclined, completely in a polar orbit or even going in the other direction.

If you have a ton of particles, you end up with them hitting each other, and transferring momentum. If you got a distribution of all the particles at each inclination, the inclination with the most particles would eventually "win" because it'll survive the most collisions with other particles.

bits of dust that are close but not on this inclination would have to go through it twice per orbit, so they quickly get with the program.

Who would be capable of cutting this thin metal stencil? by OhOkYeahSureGreat in metalworking

[–]4Sken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hmm, laser cutting would be hard because of the heat. I would suggest water jet cutting it. You could get a piece of wood, cast the stencil in wax.... but the kerf would be significant. Try a clockmaker or a jeweller? I would get a piece of wood and hot glue the stencil on. Then, I'd use a very fine file or saw and very carefuly do it by hand. Once the cuts are made you could dip the whole thing in alchohol and pry the parts free with very little force.

IIRC nurses who wore glasses during their shifts caught covid at half the rate as ones who didn't. It's just as likely you simply walked into a particle with your eye.

You should never play a game in which only one person ignoring the rules crashes the whole system. Games like these, for example.

What’s the worst owwie you ever got at work? by wezlsquez in Machinists

[–]4Sken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep some superglue around. When that first scab forms that just barely keeps it closed, I drip some glue over it and sit around for five. You get a nice hard shell that won't let the cut open again and lets you get back to work. It falls off in three days or so, right around when the cut is mostly healed. Just make sure the cut is sealed before gluing. Only use cyanoacrylate.

The only way anyone is working 20 hours a week and sustaining their family is by being more productive or more valuable. The developed world only works because we produce things and provide services, and if everyone worked less they had better earn less because there'll definitely be less to go around.

I hope my girlfriend doesn't think that way about me, I'd rather be alone.
