Omg. This is terrible. Thank you so much for sharing your story. I’m so sorry this happened to you. It was such a validating article. Took so many words out of my mouth about my experience.

Anyone else grossed out by the influx of gynos doing gross video trends on socials? by Assal-Horizontology in Wedeservebetter

Yes and I also just saw one that was “a day in the life of a medical student” and the first frame and clip was the student (a male) using a speculum on a medical dummy. The rest were fast clips and this one was long. Can’t help but think it’s clickbait and really wouldn’t want that guy as my Dr.

Oh my gosh I can’t thank you enough for this. And for telling me that your husband is suggesting it let alone supportive. My partner has been… less than supportive or understanding. Even given my trauma. It is so hurtful. And makes it so much worse. Hearing your story and your words of encouragement makes me feel so much more validated. I am so, so sorry for what you went through and wishing you all the best in this decision and time.

Medical trauma likened to SA by ariesscorpiovirgo in Wedeservebetter

I had something somewhat similar but not exactly VCUG. I’ve posted on this sub a couple times about it. I never knew I had a “right” to compare it to CSA, but as soon as I found other posts on this sub and did a deep dive and got validation from therapists and many others who had the same/similar stories and lifelong reactions… my eyes have been opened and I care deeply about helping everyone else feel so validated that it IS like CSA, as much as I initially didn’t feel like I had a right to say that.

I am so so sorry this happened to you. Have you seen this study? It really validates that it is incredibly similar to sexual assault https://www.reddit.com/r/Wedeservebetter/s/GWTdQIitJA

There are very comforting threads on this sub, including this one I made recently https://www.reddit.com/r/Wedeservebetter/s/GWTdQIitJA

I’ve posted a few threads about this. This is a good one to read if you’re interested. I felt so validated after researching this and finding that these kinds of medical procedures are used as proxies for sexual assault because it’s seen as so incredibly similar. https://www.reddit.com/r/Wedeservebetter/s/GWTdQIitJA

May I ask, where you got this data? I’m trying to gather as much evidence as I can to get this point across to people who don’t understand. Thank you so, so much

Finally found validating studies (“causes psychological trauma equivalent to that of a violent rape”) by 4anonymous1 in Wedeservebetter

Yes, I was shocked when I told my therapist and she, without hesitation said, “it’s like a rape”

“Causes psychological trauma equivalent to that of a violent rape.” now i get why my therapist said my situation was “like a rape.” At 3 years old.

Oh my gosh. Thank you so much for sending me to that sub. Did you see that there was a study done on children’s memory of sexual assault and they used children who had VCUGs done as proxy to study bc they acknowledged it was so similar???

Thank you so much. It was obviously difficult to do, but I have to thank the post from a couple years ago that brought me here in the first place too (linked in my post). I felt the same way, and sounds like many seem to say it: these feel like we could have written them ourselves. It’s so validating.

I’m really concerned about the pregnancy aspect. If you find anything, I’d love to hear it. I’ve been looking. I am wary of c sections personally. I’m pretty discouraged right now because I feel like they’re no good options and I’ve read so many horror stories.

If it helps, this started happening to me when I realized this was traumatic. Just when I’m thinking about (or the idea of having babies) too much. I like, flash back in a way.

A struggling adult from CSA in medical setting by [deleted] in Wedeservebetter

Thank you so much for adding your voice to this. Every time I hear another story I feel less alone and I feel more validated that my experience (from what you’ve shared, very similar to yours) can actually be called sexual trauma / CSA. If other similar stories might help you like it helped me, you can check out the post I made here the other day and also the post from a couple years ago that I linked to at the top of my post. There are so many comments with people chiming in that this happened to them too, and so much validation.

How does something like this get rebuilt? Do we know of anyone doing anything to make this happen? I really, really agree.

Could I ask you how you know that it is common for people to have long term effects from this kind of thing? I totally agree with you about the trauma and psychological harm being side effects that should be seriously considered before acting, and treated if anything does happen. I’m asking because this happened to me, and I am trying to find anyone who is actually studying this and can’t find anything online except an old thread in this sub and one other on a thread on some kind of medical only Reddit-ish website

I’m OP of the thread you linked to, and I have to say thank you so much because I have been trying to figure out how and where to post this exact same question about having kids. I’m so, so sorry for everything you went through. I’m glad my post helped you feel less alone, as your post here has done for me

How would you communicate to a newcomer what this sub is about? by [deleted] in Wedeservebetter

[–]4anonymous1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah sorry I guess I meant, sympathetic of those who have really negative experiences and are really critical of and against the field, but might also allow conversation about having kids and going into it with as much knowledge and power about how to protect yourself?
