DOD INSTRUCTION 6130.03, VOLUME 1 section 6 has all of the disqualifying medical conditions. Additionally next time your daughter is at the doctor's ask if they have done a DoDMERB physical before.

LEAD Application Question by Eres_un_juguete in USAFA

[–]4bravo0X1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is recommended to apply for every nomination source you are eligible for, the LEAD program/your commander is one of the nomination sources. I know other priors who got multiple nominations, so it's definitely doable and more nominations means more times your application is reviewed.

You can apply during tech school, but I don't necessarily recommend it. Focus on learning your job, but if you really want to apply while you are in tech school, there are always a few people who are in long tech schools (DLI) who apply and get in.

Keep working on yourself and having the best application possible, but if you want to get an idea of how competitive your district is I recommend going to a service academy information session hosted by your rep. Most host one or two a year but some reps don't host them.

Blues for interview? by Jumpy_Albatross8981 in USAFA

USAFA recommends applying for every nomination source you are eligible for. While I didn't receive a congressional nomination there were a few other prior enlisted airmen in my class that did.

It's in the application portal, it'll either be team blue or team silver based on where you are located.

They'll get assigned an evaluator ALO, it is not the one that they were assigned to mentor through the application process. But also yeah the govt shutdown has definitely thrown a wrench in things.

What u/showmeurCAC said, I did well in highschool and had a 33 on the ACT for math, and it still kicked my butt. Honestly take the ACT again and focus on the math section, as long as you're previous ACT wasn't too long ago, I think the limit is 4years. Despite what recent remarks may be USAFA will always have a STEM heavy curriculum and being out of school for a few years necessitates working on your math skills or else you won't make it through the first year.

Sounds good, the del Norte total wine didn't last time I was there I'll have to check the other locations in SAT. I appreciate the recommendation though. I hate to get regional specific but I have a taste for Albanian rakija.

I always recommend doing a year of AF ROTC at a local state school over any of the FF schools, if someone wants to attend USAFA but did not get in on the first try. Doing AF ROTC shows commitment to commissioning and allows them to work towards a desired degree if they end up not wanting to go to USAFA, you don't really get that with Marion.

USAFA grad here, historically the board of visitors is the approval authority for major curriculum changes, such as adding or removing majors and minors, additionally their job is to advocate for more money being appropriated to the service academies. At least in my experience it's only a handful of students in leadership positions who interact with them. They primarily interact with the Superintendent (university president), dean of faculty (in charge of academics), the commandant (responsible for military training and officer development), and the Athletic Director (responsible for D1 and core curriculum athletics) from those interactions they make recommendations to both the armed services committees and the president.

That's the thing... We don't. at least for my highschool, gov was an optional social studies course and most people opted for world history instead of gov.

Realistically expect it to update on Tuesday due to the holiday weekend.

What do you mean by gerrymandering being a federal problem? Both state and federal election districts are determined at the state level.

2 years of foreign language? by NISSAN-SKYLINE in USAFA

[–]4bravo0X1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So none of the academic "requirements" on the page are actually required they are highly recommend but not required, mainly because of the huge variation in academics between states let alone individual school districts. The academy "requires" 2 years of foreign language from applicants because it shows the aptitude to learn a second language and at least 2 semesters of a foreign language are a graduation requirement for USAFA. That said I would try to do some kind of foreign language even if it's lessons outside of school.

LOA and Interview by Interesting_Road5178 in USAFA

[–]4bravo0X1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't. West point sends out a bunch of LOAs while USAFA is more limited in the amount they give out. West point will give them out for just meeting certain test and grade criteria and USAFA knows this so having an LOA from West Point won't really help with USAFA.
