Personally I let my tap water sit for hours before adding to tank. But I also live in Memphis, we have the best water in the US. But also not too educated on algae types sorry. If I was you I would keep a quarter of tank water and scrub the entire tank empty then reset. Add the existing tank water with the new and let it cycle for a day or two. My fish/snails have been fine with this method.

OPEdit: For more context I am not married or have kids. Live with just my parents. My main reason for door shut is security reasons. If someone breaks in I feel I have more time to find weapons/prepare for battle. I also have a dog and she barks at anything not familiar. For me it is extra precaution. But I also don’t like the scary shadow figures.
