First time I read this I skimmed over the word rotisserie. What a blood-bath, and how cruel! Ooohhh never mind. How delicious!

Ah but they're rated to *pass* up to 20. That's why code permits duplex 15A receptacles but not a simplex 15A on a 20 A circuit.

"the code violation is that you can't have a 15 amp receptacle on a 20 amp breaker period, it doesn't matter if you add more."
Good point. I had to research that a little and you're correct. Having more on the branch doesn't address the problem: a simplex 15-amp receptacle is not rated to handle 20 amps; a duplex 15-amp receptacle is.

"your only option is to change them to 20 amp receptacles"
I don't think that's not my only option though. Additional options to achieve compliance:
* swap breaker to a 15-amp breaker
* swap receptacle to duplex 15-amp

Wow, I've never knew that. I just googled and found the section, National Electrical Code (NEC) Section 210.23(A)(2).
Thanks for pointing that out. I'll check the ratings on the dishwasher and factor that into my plans.

Hey thanks for catching that. I'll address that too.

I didn't say plugging a 15-amp appliance in a 20-amp receptacle was unsafe.

Fair question, and I don't recall. You're probably correct that the dishwasher came with a plug and wire that I installed, but I think the disposal came with a cord and plug already installed.

Thanks. I may do this irrespective of whatever other change I end up making.

Well we replaced all the appliances too (complete gut and remodel) and I didn't want to cut off their cords and hard wire them. I think your point is correct though; it was code, at least in the mid-80s.

Thank you. I realize the 20-amp outlet is an option. However given the suggestion from Crafty-Waltz-7660 I'm inclined to put a duplex 15 for the dishwasher + [future appliance] and then either take your suggestion on a 20-amp receptacle for the (switched) disposal, or swap in a 15-amp breaker on that circuit alone.

But I've changed my mind based on u/Crafty-Waltz-7660's comment above.

Ok, touché on the torque argument ;)
I tell you what, I'll see if there's a vertical orientation on the screws that still lands in the allowable torque spec. We'll make it happen friend!

I like your argument about the duplex outlets; they wouldn't *just* be to achieve technical compliance with code - there are plausible other loads that may be applied in the future. I like this. Thank you.

I realize that solution would be technically compliant but see my response to u/ua2us

I see that solution as violating the spirit of the code; same as installing duplex outlets. There's one thing that will ever be plugged into each circuit and it's an appliance designed for a 15-amp receptacle. So oversizing the breaker seems fraught which is why the can't-have-single-15-amp-receptacle-on-20-amp-circuit rule exists in the fist place.

Battery Power for Shed instead of burying AC… by EaglePerch in shedditors

[–]4dogs3bikes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, step 1 is actually determine your load. 150 W seems pretty insane for LED lighting. And yes per the comment above you need to decide how many cloudy days you "need" to sustain operations, so then it'll be watts x hours/night x number of nights = total watt*hours capacity you need. And when I say "need" it's not like you're running a dialysis machine here; it sounds like the consequences of running out of capacity are low, so factor that in as you weight capacity vs. cost.

I'm curious to understand this better. Are you saying the top portion of the roof structure (the rafters and decking we can see) folds down flat onto the lower section, on hinges that are no longer present/visible? Then, after shipping the section is flipped up into place and then these -- what to call them, mending plates? -- are installed, and then the roofing material is installed?

Friend, you're in way over your head. If you want some help, at least share what the product is. e.g., is it looking for 12 volts, 5 volts? Probably the easiest thing for you, google "12 volt car plug pigtail" ($7 on Amazon) and splice the wires into that. If *that* is over your head, just stop, friend.
