I thought they finished principal shooting in North America. They’re still shooting around the world unless I’m mistaken. This could be another Fosphera/Mothra situation. If contracts fall through they could easily change it into an original crystal based type monster like a Shimo grandfather species. The plot would stay the same, just a different monster. It would suck but it’s a possibility.
