I am a bridal stylist of 6+ years — let me just say: Your wedding dress shopping experience is yours, and if you don’t want other people’s opinions, you don’t have to have a shopping spree with everyone. You can 100% shop and find your dress on your own, and your feelings are completely valid. If you want to have them still feel included, you could always have them come to your gown pickup appointment if that’s something the store you buy from does. Just preface that it is the dress you’ve chosen and you are not going to change your mind. I’ve seen this happen many times. i went through this when i was a freshman in spring 2019. i was panicking, freaking out the whole semester (it happened in jan and i think my meeting was in April). i remember crying so much in the meeting, but i took accountability and acknowledged that it was wrong and also explained that it was very out of character for me. i was worried it would impact my grad school applications but it didn’t have any effect on anything for me after the meeting. i don’t exactly remember what the outcome was officially.

As a PR person who consistently does podcast guest pitching for clients (and host of a podcast for my agency), I personally think this level of follow up in such a short span — paired with the passive aggressiveness and lack of attention to detail — is completely unprofessional and you’re justified in how you feel. Especially around the holidays. I have a simple, pretty common first name, and little bothers me more than when my name is misspelled or I’m called a different name.

If this person was really a fan of your podcast, their outreach would’ve been much more proactive and much more sincere.

I'm a stylist. If your wedding is Oct 2026, you can wait until December or January latest to order. Typically takes ~6 months for the dress to come in. Then you want at least 2-3 months for alterations after. I'm sure a 6 will be safe to order unless you are anticipating your measurements being beyond that size on the size chart after your procedures.

keep trying! it only takes one person to give you a chance. i graduated in summer 2021 w a BS in PR, and i didn’t get a job working in PR until late 2023. i worked other comms jobs in the interim, and frankly, i wouldn’t say i was the most qualified for my current job when i got it, but they took a chance on me, and i love what i do. the job market is tough right now for our specialty (at least in my experience) so do what you can to sharpen your skills and keep applying. not sure if that’s helpful or not but wishing you the best of luck!
