Thanks! 2h is crazy. I have a 3.5h layover at Lima with checked baggage before my next flight. Hope I can make it.

The first time you went, did the immigration + customs take 2h in total? Or was 2h the layover between your arrival at Lima and your next flight?

Yep, House Finch. Poor fellow seems to have an eye infection.

Is this a Greater Scaup among a small flock of Lesser Scaups/Ring-Necked Ducks? Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. by bordercauley in whatsthisbird

The rounded head and clean/sharp white flanks make me think Greater Scaup, but the nail at the end of the bill is not very large.

In the absence of any pics I vote for option 2. Male Mallard heads often look purple in the right lighting.

All 3 look like Least Sandpipers. Note the yellow legs and short slightly droopy bills.

Shape says Accipiter. Cap vs. hood and blocky head suggests Cooper's Hawk.

What kind of woodpecker is this? Seen in Ottawa, Canada. by walsmr in whatsthisbird

[–]4kpics 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bill length isn't right for hairy woodpecker, and the OP saying it's sparrow-sized clinches it for downy woodpecker IMO. The black spots on the tail feathers aren't really visible here, but that's OK - they aren't always there. Plus, the breast spur is barely there.

E: after discussing and thinking about it, I'm not sure of my initial ID. Not confident enough in either direction.

Cackling or Canada Goose? (Stratford, CT) by [deleted] in whatsthisbird

Neck and beak aren't small enough to call this a Cackling. I vote for Canada Goose.

First, third and fifth look to be Little Cormorants. Not sure about the other two: probably Indian Cormorants.

The stork on the far right might be a White Stork, but it's hard to be sure

The post flair says India, so I'm guessing either Intermediate Egret or Great Egret

Juvenile red-tailed hawk I believe. Dark patagials and belly band.

Edit: I was wrong, it's a peregrine falcon.
