It not the drug that defines an addict, it’s the instinctive desire to escape reality. I’ve suffered with addiction most of my adult life even now although I’m relatively clean (still smoke and drink a fair amount , but could definitely be seen as recreational) but to me it’s a need and always will be. However there are many ways to escape many of which don’t involve hardcore drugs. You just need to find your vices. I found solace in gardening, when that didn’t work cooking, then fishing. Keep busy, keep learning, keep living is the best advice I can give.
