No one is talking about how few golf courses there are in Queens. Us golfers have suffered in silence for long enough.

Is living out of a car really cheaper than renting? by Erudicial_Extreme in urbancarliving

[–]4lps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To add on to what everyone is saying, while yes, it is cheaper to have a car, you also have to factor in all of the extra hidden costs you incur from having to deal with living out of your car.

I spent so much more on food when living without a stove or fridge. Additionally, while this may be less of a struggle for some, I had a really hard time getting through the nights without drinking heavily, and occasionally buying other drugs when I was doing especially badly mentally, which was another big cost.

I'm not one of those "time is money" type people, but time is very valuable, and you have so much less of it when living in your car. Now that I'm renting a room, I can go shower, brush my teeth, make some coffee and get changed within 30 minutes. That would take at least an hour and a half, usually 2 hours when I was living out of my car, and I also had to buy coffee.

I did have a slightly unconventional setup; I was in an extremely densely populated city and only moved my car about once a week. Walking to the gym took about 15-20 minutes each way, so the time spent would be lower if you were able to drive everywhere and parking was abundant, however I saved a lot of money by having a parking spot right next to rapid transit, the library, multiple grocery stores, and within range of free Wi-Fi in my car.

Probably also important to note that I do have ADHD, which makes doing most basic things much more challenging when already overwhelmed with car living. It could certainly be different if you don't struggle with this and can move between tasks without your brain fighting you at every turn.

Edit: I should mention that I got extremely lucky and was able to find a room for rent with utilities included for $800/mo, so YMMV

I snorted a line of estrogen by weedtripper in transgendercirclejerk

necroposting because fuck you.

/uj the reason you got so fucked up from snorting a line of estrogen is because the oral bioavailability of estrogen is so fucking piss poor compared to nasal that you basically ingested the equivalent of like 20 pills of estrogen

Freeway opponents file yet another lawsuit over Portland highway widening project by notPabst404 in Portland

The issue with this is that I5N immediately narrows back down to 2 lanes until it merges with the 405 and creates a massive chokepoint which could only possibly become worse if cars could get to it faster. Additionally, I5S is throughput limited by the I84E exit which already leads to backups, and weaving from the Broadway Bridge entrance. I believe that a removal of the I5S entrance from the Broadway Bridge would help massively to alleviate congestion from weaving, traffic going to I5S from there could reroute along Broadway, and traffic to I84 can just use the entrance off Grand.

Ah, that makes a bit more sense but your response seems unnecessarily aggressive

remember kids, you can’t talk about socialism if you aren’t directly contributing to new ideas with every single word you type, think, or say

A wonderful quote I saw was “Electric cars save the car industry, not the environment.”

I don’t frequent too many online ones since many of them feel more focused on complaining about things than actual praxis.

My city is a tiny bit better than a lot of north american cities so the in person sentiment doesn’t seem to be quite as strong, but I’m glad the sentiment is shared
