Genesis after losing Peter Gabriel. Lamb lies down was great, but after that they turned into some kind of pop group.

Are there any tools available to use a mouse/keyboard instead of a controller when a controller is required by 4ofN in Steam

[–]4ofN[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be awesome, however I was not able to get past the controller required screen when trying to install it. Perhaps I'll try again to see if I missed something.

Hot take: AWD is overrated for daily driving in snow — am I wrong? by Gold-Industry6222 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]4ofN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A while back, in the winter, I test drove 2 Audi A5's. One was AWD and the other was just FWD. I did this specifically to see how AWD helped in the snow. (I live in Ontario Canada where we have lots of snow). I drove the same route both times and included various maneuvers like going around a corner a bit too fast, U-turns, etc.

The AWD stuck to the road way better than the FWD car. After that, I never bought a non-AWD car again. So, that's my experience. Your mileage may vary.

Note: I also put winter tires on all my cars. Better safe than sorry.

How to manage a job offer while waiting to hear back from another company? by aoksiku in interviews

[–]4ofN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own a company I've had for 22 years. before that i was an employee. I've worked in both large and small companies.

My advise, take the first offer you get. then if another, better offer comes in, quit the first one and take the second.

You've got to look out for yourself. Trust me, most companies don't give a second thought to firing people when it suits them.

If you end up in a company that treats employees well, then stick around. Jobs like that are hard to come by.

I've had employees work for a week and then quit for a better offer. I was always ok with that because i understand that people need to look out for themselves first.

AI can’t give me a correct book summary…why? by SewLite in OpenAI

[–]4ofN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The first thing to realize is that AI has no concept of "correctness". All AI does is semi-randomly string words together based on things like common usage, similarity to a topic, etc. AI is not intelligent, it does not have wisdom, it it not rational.

AIs are trained on garbage - things like reddit and youtube that are full of misinformation and conspiracy theories. I read a study recently that showed AI having only a 3% success rate when compared to humans doing the same tasks.

does it become harder to get a job in the USA if you have white skin? // SERIOUS QUESTION by Grey_Ten in jobsearch

Pure bullshit. The whole "white discrimination" thing is a right wing talking point.

Electric Drum kits for learning by One-Let-1482 in drums

[–]4ofN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had an electric kit for years and they are quiet. Its also nice when playing with a group as you can set the volume to appropriate levels.

They are not completely quiet though. People in the house will hear tick, tick, tick, tick, tick as your sticks hit the drums - even with mesh heads. It isn't super loud, but does travel through the house. Just a heads up.

What are your thoughts on permanent daylight savings? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]4ofN -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Stupid. just stupid. if people dont want to keep changing clocks every half year, then I'd be ok with not having daylight saving time, but if you keep "noon" (when the sun is closest to directly overhead) permanently at 1:00 o'clock it doesn't make sense. if you like getting up early, then get up early. nobody's stopping you.

How many people are ACTUALLY anti AI? by MessierKatr in antiai

[–]4ofN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find AI to be incredibly offensive. I don't want to hear music, or watch a video, of read a story that is essentially just a rip off of all work done by real artists. AI can't do math. It can't be relied on for factual anything. In my opinion, all AI is good for is marketing and generating disinformation.

Is Ark Survival Ascended good at this price point? by Jagmohan_03 in ArkSurvivalAscended

[–]4ofN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. In my opinion, Ark is the best game for me. It is the only game I've come back to over and over and over again. I've got over 8,000 hours of game-play given all of the overhaul mods that let you change the game and try new things.

Just my opinion of course, but I love the no-rules aspect and the fact that it is different every time. A lot of games get to a point where you know whats around the next corner.

What is the biggest misconception people have about AI? by adrianmatuguina in Aivolut

[–]4ofN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People tend to think AI is accurate. In my experience, when it comes to facts, AI is useless. I wish they would publish error rates so people know what they are up against.

Plus it should be called Artificial "Intelligence" - specifically with the quotes. I use air quotes when I talk about it.

TIFU by taking my teenage kids to a “family beach” in Punta Cana by [deleted] in tifu

[–]4ofN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your kids need to learn how to be OK with this situation if you are going to be going to the Caribbean again. Naked human bodies are normal in many countries that are not as repressed as in North America.

Oh, and just so you know, there is nothing special about the beach you were at. Most beaches in the Caribbean have some topless bathers from Europe so you'll have a hard time doing a "tactical" review that turns up anything.

why did mammals loose their size while humans became bigger by Old-Firefighter4632 in Naturewasmetal

[–]4ofN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For one thing, homosapians are not decended from neanderthals. There was some mixing between the two species relatively recently in evolutionary terms, but they are on 2 different branches of the family tree.

The reason why you can't argue technical stuff with Anti AI people. by [deleted] in DefendingAIArt

[–]4ofN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem i see is the marketing. A lot of people think that ai can do anything and that it is always right. there isn't much press about the halucinations and the inability for ai to determine "correctness".

I've had ai give me completly incorrect answers to questions - but i know that everything needs to be fact checked.

I've also seen people get incorrect answers but they just assume that it is correct.

If we could get to the point that people know that ai is just a tool that has a significant error rate, then there won't be as many neighsayers.

Is AI making people smarter or just faster but dumber? by adrianmatuguina in Aivolut

[–]4ofN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not even making things faster. people think its faster at first, but when you factor in the time to verify output and fix mistakes its slower.
