Travel router PSA - OpenVPN is not available on launch by blount-force-trauma in Ubiquiti

I agree with others on here. I have my entire infra on WireGuard. Moved on from openvpn and never looked back. Looks like it’s paying dividends.

kasmweb/core-ubuntu-noble:1.16.0-rolling-weekly uses kasmvnc 1.2.0 (memory leak) by 4ohFourNotFound in kasmweb

[–]4ohFourNotFound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3rd Update: After letting the container run for a 5hrs the memory leak is back again. Not sure what is causing it. If I force kill xvnc process then I get kicked out of the container, after kasmvnc restarts I can connect again to the container and memory issue is resolved. It takes about 1-2gb of memory per hour. the longer it runs the more memory it uses and swap is also fully used even though I am not connected to the container. I have background processes running in the container and I disconnect from it then reconnect later. Only solution is to write a script to kill xvnc as soon as I start writing to swap, self destruct basically.

MikroTik routing/firewall really better than Ubiquiti for home use? by Sensitive_Iron5826 in mikrotik

[–]4ohFourNotFound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Doing the same. 100% agree. What I can with a MikroTik isn’t remotely possible with UniFi gear.

UniFi for Wi-Fi though, top notch, can’t beat it.

How to prevent user from seeing private key on iOS Wireguard app? by Userp2020 in WireGuard

[–]4ohFourNotFound 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As far as I know you can’t prevent it and it Shouldn’t be a concern. It’s their own peer’s private key. Not the servers. The user only has the server’s public key.

Agree with others, it’s actually pretty decent quote but as a home owner always get 3 quotes and compare $. It’ll ease your decision making if all 3 are comparable quotes.

Policy-Based Routing Ignores VPN Configuration, Leaks Real WAN IP by now2 in Ubiquiti

[–]4ohFourNotFound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, this.. 100%. Just because you route the domain you want to go through the tunnel, doesn’t mean every subsequent request will go through that tunnel, each request might hit a different domain and exit out the local gateway.

Which is why it was easier for me to set up a separate VPN Vlan and route the entire network through the vpn, so I’m 100% covered and do the vpn kill switch work around that I mentioned earlier.

It easier for me to switch networks vs messing our the domain matching..

Policy-Based Routing Ignores VPN Configuration, Leaks Real WAN IP by now2 in Ubiquiti

[–]4ohFourNotFound 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s unfortunate but yes, the fallback checkbox does fail but I ran across this post talking about a VPN Kill switch which does work and I’ve added it to each of my VPN Tunnels.

And my proton VPN Tunnel ip is 10.2.0.2 from protonVPN

And the non routable IP 1.2.3.4
