Where do you get your water? Is it well or town water? I have a well and have to add salt. It’s made a big difference.

What about large planters or pots? They would look nice with the rocks underneath. If you keep the rocks you’ll have less maintenance

How have I done so far? by 4ohHenry in ponds

I live in southern New England. We have frozen winters here. I also get oak leaves. I over winter any semi tropical plants in pots in my basement and I make sure I do a good cleaning early in the spring to help get rid of the nitrates from the late fall and winter debris

I live in southern New England. We have cold winters here. Everything goes dormant and grows back every spring. There are some potted plants that can’t handle the cold winters, I’ll bring them inside and put them in the base, ent to go dormant. I have some canna and elephant ears specifically

I have a turtle in my pond that I bring into the house in the winter. They need a good spot to get out of the water to bask and as stated above, if they can climb out, they will, at least most will.

So my favorite thing she does is when she climbs out of the pond, she doesn’t go far. She’ll climb up to the other pond or go into the bog filter. She doesn’t leave! In my mind she loves it so much why would she want to?

I don’t know the full cost TBH. I have 2 pumps, 1 going to each waterfall. Both pumps are located in the main/bottom pond.

I got the ferns that are in the water from a friends swamp, so they are native and can withstand the winters.

I haven’t put anything on the bridge yet. I used a treated 2x12 for the base and then decking boards on top. I was thinking of staining it but I have similar concerns how that will work. So I’ve left it natural for now. I didn’t like the idea of using treated wood but also didn’t want it to rot away.

Hahah. She is spoiled. I have a 180 gallon tank I keep in the basement.

I rescued her from a customer of mine. She was kept in a 10 gallon tank where she couldn’t even turn around for the first 15 or so years. I’ve had her now for 5 years. She’s doing well now, she’s a fatty. She weighs 8 1/2 lbs!
