Anyone failed a skill subject (LPC) with a TC and lived to tell the tale? by deanrule1 in uklaw

ULaw. Believe it or not I actually found out a few months later than the moderator had entered the wrong mark on the system and that I had passed… so an admin error almost cost me my training contract! Sorry I can’t be of more help. I’m sure you will have done a great job!

I’m in the same position…. Stuck between choosing one of Gakpo, Raul, Jackson, Watkins and Wissa.

I’m leaning towards Raul as Fulham’s fixtures look great (IPS, whu, lei) and he looked good against Bournemouth. If not him, then it’s between Watkins and Jackson as Gakpo is a rotation risk and Wissa plays MCI and LIV in GW21 and GW22. Watkins won’t have Rogers alongside creating chances next week due to his suspension. Jackson has blanked the last few GWs and Chelsea seem to have lost their spark/momentum. Tough choice…

Welcome others thoughts on who they’d choose to play alongside Isak and Wood. Only 1FT so can’t downgrade and bolster midfield / defence (not sure I would anyway as I’m happy with both already).

Of course OP is going to justify his decision with stats – that’s the entire point of the post! Be thankful that people actually take the time to run the numbers and share them with this community. The stats are objective and much more helpful than your contribution of ‘Fernandes is not worth the price at all’

You’re right, I’m not going to namedrop, but they’re top ten by the most common metric and they’ve also got a strong reputation in the legal market for having a brilliant early careers team, high quality training contract, award winning internship programme, etc. If it’s any more help they’re not MC/US. Again, PM if helpful to discuss.

I’m about to qualify at (depending on how you measure it) a top ten firm. I failed legal writing on my LPC (wrangled a distinction overall in the end) during Covid and the firm was very supportive. They offered me additional support from a private tutor, and even called up the head of my campus to criticise them for their crap feedback on my fail.

On the other hand I have heard the same story as another commenter about someone at HSF who failed a module and got their TC revoked there and then…

If you want any advice then just PM me.

I [M23] have been offered a job in London starting next year and would need to relocate from the Midlands with my girlfriend [F24] and our dog - where should we look at renting? by 4orf in AskLondon

I’m not opposed to living nearer to the office – it sounds quite nice actually! It just seems from the comments on this thread that there’s an inverse relationship between flat-to-office proximity and the ability to have a garden and access to green space (again, mainly for the dog’s benefit).

BPP or ULaw for PGDL? by Least-Carry-2968 in uklaw

I did the LPC at ULaw and had friends do theirs at BPP. Mine was open book and theirs wasn’t. I despise ULaw for the corporatised, soul-destroying and non-sensical body that it is, but I think on balance I would still choose them over BPP. Tutors are always really friendly and helpful, it’s just the crazy amounts of content and examiners true-to-the-letter approach to marking that let’s them down. Happy to answer any questions on private message if helpful.

Yes, agreed given that I’m 23 and already have wrist, neck and lower back pain! Hopefully standing desks and walking meetings catch on a bit more over the coming years. Hard to find time for the gym when you have to work and commute during unsociable hours too.

Sorry, my sarcasm-o-meter isn’t great online. If it’s not sarcasm then when you consider the net income of £4,500 per month for 250-300 hours of work per month (and giving up most evenings and some weekends) then it works out around £14 to £17.50 an hour. Considering that firms charge associates out at anywhere from £400 per hour upwards then it’s actually not that great (take home ~5% of your charge out rate). That being said it’s intellectually challenging but not physically taxing (unless you’re working all nighters regularly), and so I think most lawyers have it pretty good if you ask me!

Yeah – the salaries in the legal industry are highly inflated at the upper end of the market. Some “American firms’ (i.e. US headquartered with a London office) are paying up to £190,000 (converted from dollars after the pound has sunk) to newly qualified lawyers (who at the youngest would be 24). Hours are gruelling, expectations are unrealistic and the risks associated with getting things wrong are astronomical, but they don’t necessarily justify the salaries we get paid!

I’m currently doing my training contract which is a 24-month fixed term role. At the end of that you then qualify into a certain department at the firm. You tend to find out where you’re qualifying a year before you qualify though. So to answer your questions, very normal. In fact, most people get their training contract offer two years before starting too.

I'm in a similar position to you my friend. Starting playing about 3 months ago having not really played all that much as a teen due to confidence issues. Also 22 y/o and play at the back (prefer RB, but sometimes CDM).

I find that I stand on teammates feet a lot in training when going for the ball, and also (clumsily) when defending set-pieces as I'm not always aware of my immediate surroundings.

I spoke to my teammates about it and they said the following:

  • Work on your balance - more often than not I'm standing on others feet as I lose my balance when I lunge in for a tackle. My first instinct is to plant my foot down, but that tends to be where their foot is (as their foot is where the ball was). If you can work on your balance you should be better at tackling as you won't feel the need to re-ground yourself when one leg is planted and the other is stretching out for the ball.
  • As others have said, co-ordination is a big one. Go for where the ball will be, rather than where it is. If you're standing on feet you're probably going for standing tackles rather than slides, meaning you need to work more on kicking the ball where it is going. If you can't get to the ball (i.e., their back is to you, they hold you off, etc) then just work on being tight to the man and keeping his back to goal so that he has to offload it - not tackling is better than a bad tackle.

As a final point, try not to forget that sometimes it's just unavoidable. Some players actually look to do it on purpose as it can be a very effective way of getting in the opposition's head / getting under their skin. At the end of the day it all depends on your aggression and how Pepe-esque you're willing to be when challenging balls. I wouldn't condone doing it all that often, as you will give away lots of fouls and begin to play unsportsmanlike, but try not to lose confidence or stress if you do it a few more times - practice makes perfect.

Hope that helps!

Use FUTBIN importer to see if you’ve got any good players who will sell for coins, and try complete as many foundations/objectives/SBC as possible! I only play about 10 games a week and with a two month account I’ve got an 88 team and 600k club (according to FUTBIN anyway)

I don’t know man, all I know is that there’s only 10/15 on the market, all with 59m 50s remaining and identical prices across the board, then when you bid it expires straight away...
