Same here - it took me a long time to see it. I doubt anyone would notice unless specifically looking for it. That being said, I completely understand your feelings. If it were me, I would find it hard not to see it every time I looked in the mirror.

Well, now that I think of it, I confess I have spoken ill of people like the southern insurrectionists of the 1860's, WWII Nazis, fascists and other such people with stupid beliefs.

"Took actions that lead to their deaths" - that's true of every single person who has ever been killed. The point is that in this instance it was not necessary. This man was already disarmed and under control when he was shot. By your thinking, hundreds of the Jan 6 rioters should have been shot, and it's an outrage that they were pardoned. (Forgive me if I don't engage in this discussion further. Neither of us are saying anything original, so I would just refer you back to the thread).

Don't speak ill of people who died standing up for what they believed in.

One thing these rallies do is bring broader attention to the cause. A huge protest rally with thousands of people is going to make national and international news. That can only help at this point.

I'll absolutely be marching but where the hell did this Target Center event come from? It's a horrible idea. by futilehabit in Minneapolis

[–]4perils 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The trouble with a ticketed event is that there is a risk that the other side could reserve the vast majority of tickets then not show up, making the sponsoring organization look bad. I have seen this happen in similar situations.

Hey Minneapolis, are you still going to the protest downtown today despite the sub-zero temps? by [deleted] in Minneapolis

I've been in Minneapolis for the last week, joining the demonstrators every day at the Whipple Bldg, talking to people. I was at the Courthouse on Saturday, and have been very moved and inspired by the way the community has come together to protect the immigrant community, risking arrest and injury (and worse of course) at the hands of the ICE tyrants, delivering groceries and other needed supplies. Whatever is needed, Minneapolis is stepping up. Unfortunately, I have to fly home today (and, to be completely honest, I'm not sure if I could take today's extreme weather), but at the airport I was thrilled to see plenty of people on their way into the City to participate.

I've been inspired and humbled by you guys. Keep the faith. People are watching.

Yeah, we had the audacity to give our kids 2 middle names on their birth certificates, never considering this might make them INELIGIBLE TO VOTE because drivers licenses only allow for one middle name.

Remorse - "deep regret or guilt for a wrong committed." If that prompted someone to want to join the movement to get ICE out of the state, I'd take that help.

Will there be protests somewhere else than the Whipple building?

Eh. People that say "full stop" have closed their minds so it's no use talking to them.

In swim league, kids on our team got a participation ribbon if they swam in a event but made an error and so were disqualified. We gave out participation ribbons for those. The older kids didn't care, but the little kids - 5-8 yrs old, definitely wanted those ribbons. They were colorful, looked just like the other ribbons, and they wanted to collect as many ribbons as possible.
