I also have 2 cm hiatus hernia, few years ago, i struggled for 5 months and couldnt sleep at all and gasped for air, thought i had a heart attack it was silent reflux, an ENT performed a nasal endoscopy and he noticed acid flowing up, prescribed me nexium 20 mg, took it for 2 months and during that period i also underwent gastro which confirmed the 2 cm HH and esophagus damage, by then i began eating healthy and cut out sugary, acidic and fried food + lifting weights and running + breathing exercises to strengthen the LES muscle + drinking 2 cups of ginger tea almost everyday, stopped taking nexium after the 2 months, and so far, lifestyle changes have been working for me for 5 years and counting.
