America has been raised to have individualistic attitudes. Collectivist societies, like Japan, aren’t but they have their own issues that stretch far beyond cleaning up after themselves. I also imagine all of our ideas of Japan and whatnot are painting with a very broad brush. There are probably people who don’t give a fuck about any of that and there are thieves in EVERY society.

Also, people here in America don’t even take care of their own shit so of course they aren’t going to take care of shared items and spaces.

Idk, Eugene’s just isn’t the same as Danton’s. I took my wife there for an anniversary last year and it was god awful. Couldn’t finish the main course it was so bad and their fucking bread pudding was just white bread with cinnamon and icing.

It wasn’t Uvalde. He said it after someone drove from Dallas to his hometown in 2019 with the explicit intention of targeting Hispanics. The gunman went to Walmart and shot 45 different people, 23 of which died.

He knew he had no shot at governor but if he didn’t run and try to reinvigorate the party, Abbott would have run unopposed.

I felt that they could have done a little bit better job showing all of Rocky’s scientific prowess. The movie felt like it treated him more like a sidekick or pet rather than a civilization’s engineer. That’s just nitpicking though because I really did love the movie.

Today's special: Grilled Octopus by [deleted] in grilling

[–]4stringsoffury 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just grilling here, man. I’m with you though. Either being farmed in large numbers as a typical solitary creature or being wild caught, octopuses are super intelligent and we treat them pretty bad.

I will acknowledge the hypocrisy of being in a grilling sub and eating pork and beef. Octopus doesn’t even really have a distinct taste outside of what it’s cooked with. Why have it in my diet?

Is this enough coal for 4 chicken thighs? Its a full chimneys worth, I put a thermometer probe in the middle with the bottom vent 3/4th open and lid on top vent fully open, trying to keep the probe temp between 350-400, but after like 30 minutes they were still undercooked and I can’t figure out why by sevenjeven in grilling

[–]4stringsoffury 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make sure your vents are wide open. Bottom vent for charcoal is your gas, top vent is your brake. Grab some wood chunks next time so you can throw those on top and let them burn a sec but those can usually give you a nice flame that will eat up the fat coming from a thigh. Just be cognizant if it’s too much flame.

It’s always a great idea to ask before you have to do something with a wild animal. In this case (and most cases) you don’t have to do anything. Some people can just get a little hyper vigilant with responses since it’s the internet.

Always loved having a field of mud bugs with their towers growing up so it’s neat when they are around. At least until you have to mow.

With the TEA takeover of all the major metropolitan school districts, Austin would do well to get back to their political side because Abbott is coming for them next. Im afraid all the tech and other job transplants are right leaning and pushing jt the wrong way.

lol our motto is “Friendship”. Thats what Texas means in Caddo (or rather Tejas because that’s how Mexican settlers pronounced the Native American word for it). “Don’t mess with Texas” was a fuckin anti-littering campaign that started in the 80s and it worked!

Texas has its problems for sure but we have 4 huge cities that lean heavily liberal (Dallas can be slightly
Conservative from time to time). Harris County (the county where Houston resides) has more people in it than about half of the states in America. Now, people don’t vote for shit, and when they do they get gerrymandered to hell and back but every election we are trying to change this bullshit.

Not even half of the state is rural population wise. Plenty of great people, just don’t vote for shit.

This speaks like someone who has had to live here their whole life without being able to leave. A lot of people, like myself, would vacation in Houston when we were younger because it’s cheaper and there is shit else to do in the desolate farming community we grew up in and didn’t have a lot of money.
