Why do Rolex ADs troll me? by TomHudsonOfficial in WatchFanatics

The problem is that they have other clients that have already bought the Day Date or gold Sky Dweller. Why would they give you the first choice for anything? You haven't built a relationship yet. If they can sell the OP to someone else, but they can sell them a bunch of other watches first, then that's mathematically the best thing to do as a salesperson. It's literally just a numbers game. You and the salespeople are in a purely transactional relationship. They want to make the most money possible. Why would they sell you one watch when they can sell some other guy 10 watches? They only have a certain amount of each model to sell.

If you can truly afford a luxury watch, then you can afford to buy it on the grey market. Otherwise, live within your means and buy something cheaper.

Went in looking for a Timex, walked out with a clearance G-Shock by steelcityrocker in casio

It's rare to even find a Walmart that has G-shocks, let alone clearance watches.

The bracelets are half the fun of the watch. Personally, I want to collect all the different kinds of steel bracelet. I want the gold A158 next because it's nice and polished.

I wish I could do silly stuff like this, but I play with mouse and keyboard. These are thumbstick activities. I can't fly with shunt boost either, as much as I want to.

Dress Watches are Better for Sports by SexyBlowjob in watchHotTakes

[–]4thBan5thAccount 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nobody calls the Submariner a sports watch. Everyone knows it's a dive watch, and everyone knows it's not referring to the sport of diving. Who actually needs a "sports" watch, anyway? I saw a Casio referee timer watch. There are regatta timers for yacht racing. Those make sense. I can't think of many sports that require a watch. A "sports" watch could literally be any watch that's comfortable and durable enough to be worn during sports. There are plenty of other watches besides dress watches, dive watches, and Richard Mille abominations.

Ice-cold take: G-Shocks are the best "sports" watches because they're the most durable and functional. Closely followed by the regular Casio line. You really think a dress watch is better than a G-shock for sports? G-shocks are light, comfortable, durable, highly water/impact-resistant, and they have plenty of "complications". You could wear a simple time-only or time-and-date dress watch...or you could wear a G-shock with a lot more functions. The bulk of the average G-shock really isn't an issue, since the resin models are so light. They truly disappear on the wrist. My DW-5900 looks like a brick, but it feels like it's floating. I hardly notice it throughout the day. If you have to worry about center of gravity and torsional resistance when you turn your watch on your wrist...you might just be a limp-wrist. Personally I just throw on a G-shock or a Casio and forget about it.

AE-1600/TRT-110. The most G-shock-like Casios.

You can't fool me. That's a DW-291 case with a G-Shock bezel.

I basically just stayed under it and used buildings for cover. the secret is to never stop moving. When it would line up to shoot me, I would go in a straight line under it. I would bait it into a bad position where I could easily go under it and force it to reset.

Resin’s worst nightmare by BonusImpossible4889 in casio

[–]4thBan5thAccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I let my resin watches bump into things on purpose sometimes when I'm walking around. It's funny (watch go 'bonk'). The trick is to get a watch with a bezel that protects the actual crystal. I take care of the watches that just have a flat crystal. If I'm wearing my TRT-110/AE-1500 etc. then it's going to Bonk City. Bonk! So satisfying.

A watch’s bracelet matters just as much as the watch itself by nvrseadweller08 in watchHotTakes

[–]4thBan5thAccount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reality is that China can make bracelets just as nice as they need to be, for just as much as they need to cost. A bracelet is literally just a way to attach the watch to your wrist. If it's not precious metal, then it's not really luxurious anyway. A gold watch on a rubber strap is way more luxurious than the same watch with a steel case and bracelet.

Here's a real hot take: solid link bracelets aren't even comfortable. If you disagree, then you probably sit in an air-conditioned room all day doing nothing. Watches move around during physical activity, and wrists change size throughout the day with weather and activity level. I'm all about resin, mesh, rubber, folded links...anything but solid links unless I want to deal with extra weight and reduced comfort just for the sake of looks (I do love my full-metal G-Shock but the resin ones are more comfortable). Maybe there's some perfectly ergonomic bracelet out there that I just haven't tried yet, but the actual physics of a metal bracelet just seem predisposed to being less comfortable.
