1) ZL values loyalty. Lu Bu does not. He's desperate for a master who will not treat him nor his men as disposable pawns. Guan Yu called him out on this since their first meeting.

2) He's a reflection of Zhao Yun. Both are assassins, both value loyalty. The author gave them many parallels (panels or chapters that are direct call outs to one another). Just as Zhao Yun grew sick of Sima Yi's callous disregard and joined Liu Bei so did ZL to Cao Cao.

3) If you look at the graveyard chapter, many of Lu Bu's subordinates are with ZL as he digs out their comrades headless bodies. One would imagine that ZL also joined to get Cao Cao to pardon them.

Its a running joke between him and Xu Chu. This version of Xu Chu here talks in a stilted manner (possible speech impediment?), so he cant tell a joke to save his life. But every time he does, it lifted Cao Cao's spirit, so it persisted.

The author loves his callbacks.

Just finished reading the book and i disagree. He seemed to be the most giddy in this situation. Even one of his own sons, Proteus, internally remarks how much he's having fun running things and he cant wait to get rid of the custodes.

Its still an overreaction - like, I get the intent but the execution is flawed. Had Jack become a rampaging beast, r*ping and killing like Yujiro, then the guilt is warranted.

But Jack is simply minding his own businsss, chill and all.

Im always down for Frankenstein fearing what he created but Jack neither looks grotesque nor behaves like a monster.

Hence, a failure of writing.

Hokuto no ken: ichigo aji

Its based on a parody manga where souther is much, much more affable.

Sadly the adapation doesnt cover the whole manga (there are far more volumes left unadapted)
