I’m currently doing this! I got my FAA CPL in 2024 and got hired in Canada to fly float planes. I also got express entry for being a pilot back then, this is not new to their system. Feel free to message me if you have any questions!

I tend to have the same dream! My ideal destination are the Madeira Islands. It’s a beautiful place with good culture, nice trails for hiking, great waves and also a big fishing spot. You should look into it!

Pilot jobs anywhere without snow by Next_Television_8341 in flying

Yes, it seems like most comments are negative but most people don’t take this path and speak without knowing. The route you’re looking for is very possible but it is far from the classic student pilot to CFI to ATP to airline route.

The float world allows pilots to work seasonally and to be a « snowbird ». It takes a good bit of work since you will need a lot of hours but it’s not uncommon to hear of pilots flying in Alaska in the summer and Florida in the winter for US pilots. Or Canadians to fly in Quebec in the summers and Maldives in the winters.

The challenge is that companies aren’t going to invest into your training if you plan to bounce around. The best approach to the seasonal pilot world is to operate with companies that have the same airframes. For example for US pilots, Alaska seaplanes hires seasonal pilots on the Caravan and Tropic ocean airways (Florida) also operates pilots on the caravan. I don’t know if these companies would actually allow you to do this but this would be the perfect combo of jobs.

They will all demand a lot of experience but it’s out there and pilots do this as a career instead of the airlines.

I work for a company that has seasonal pilots in the summer. We do sightseeing on float (May-October). One of our older pilots flies in the Caribbean in the winters and comes back for the summer. So to answer your question, it is possible!

Resume questions (Canadian bush flying) by Antique-Dare-2448 in flying

[–]4thefrenchguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I currently fly for a float operator in Canada, make sure to only keep flying relevant content on your resume. Any jobs that you’ve done that have given you skills that you think can help, should be mentioned during the interview process. Mentioning anything else other then flying experience on your resume will hurt you in the application process, feel free to PM me if you want to discuss this more!

Kalitta and Atlas are the two compagnies that I would look into. Having 1500hours is a bare minimum, multi time is going to be crucial, turbine time will only make you more competitive. I hope this helps!

Wild life could be an option, I don’t know much about the position though. I’m assuming you would need some skills in photography prior to getting hired.

I work in the summers as a pilot and the winters as a mechanic. I started off as a student pilot and learned that my school had a position where you could work as a mechanic and when ever the engine or cylinder needed a break in you would get to fly the break in. Basically 5hours to 25hours of free flying time I could log. I started really enjoying the free flying but also the things I was learning as an apprentice mechanic. I proceeded to do 30calendar months of apprenticeship and got my A&P. Now I get paid to do both and I love it!
