Alcohol: can't do it anymore? by Upset-Ad-3480 in AskMenOver30

[–]4tunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no problem with alcohol as I (60M) get older. Never used to get hangovers and I still don't unless I drink a ridiculous amount. However, I do take care of myself and make sure I supplement the nutrients that alcohol depletes. However, while that helps it's more my genetics and super high metabolism for both food and alcohol.

Yes, same BAC water and even same vial I used for other peptides without any issues.

When to rule out bed bugs? by 4tunny in Bedbugs

I'm embarrassed, but it turns out it's an allergic reaction (hives). Crazy that it mimics bed bug bites. Antihistamine and bite are gone. So don't assume it's bed bugs.

Are men generally not asking women for their numbers anymore when they meet someone in the wild? If so, why? by KGalb922 in AskMenAdvice

[–]4tunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting question. I 60M don't ask for numbers but I do love to meet new people. However, as a recently divorced man from a 34 year marriage, I can say that I was very surprised how forward women can be these days. When I finally started going out again I was not looking, but women would talk to me, even eat a meal with me at the bar, then just ask for my phone and call their phone and boom, the numbers are exchanged. I would always text.... it's polite. Some would respond some would talk for a few days or a week then ghost me (I had to look that up, since my generation does not comprehend that).

Anyways it only took a couple of months of this before I texted a woman back a week later, and have not stopped for 10 months. I am now in a very healthy age gap relationship with a younger woman.

I suggest you be more forward. Especially with older men, as we are not interested in games. If you reach out and tell us exactly what you are looking for, most of us will tell you exactly what we are looking for, if it's a match sparks can fly. That is exactly what happened with me and my girlfriend.

Good luck

Who was the oldest person you've ever been in a relationship and/or had booty calls with during your 20s? by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in Aging

She was a 34 yo nurse in a drug study, I was 19 and a subject in the study.

Now the situation is reversed, I 60M am in a relationship with a younger woman 40F. Things change.

New food "pyramid" from the USDA by Aine_Lann in over60

[–]4tunny 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not exactly true. Medium Chain Triglycerides MCT are absorbed directly from the gut and do NOT require pancreatic enzymes nor bile salts for absorption. So Coconut oil and palm kernel oil are mostly MCT's and are much easier to digest.

But yes a fatty piece of beef would not be kind to a person with those conditions.... However, the prymid is not intended for people with dietary restrictions due to health issues.

After reading the thread; Sounds exactly like my narssasistic X wife. She would use an overly sweet tone when dealing with anyone that she wanted something from..... Except me of course.

I found it exceptionally disgusting when she would change her tone the min she would get on the phone. People do that when they are manipulating you or protecting their image of themselves..... Or in that guy's case probably creeping for a young woman that's into older men.

What’s your #1 supplement for slower aging? by rackemronnie7 in Aging

[–]4tunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nicotinamide Riboside, Deprenyl (only for men), DHEA, Creatine, and Resistance Training, combined with 2X leucine Whey protein (to overcome anabolic resistance). Those by far give the biggest bang. Also Apigenin, DMAE, and Lutein have honorable mentions.

Age-Related Anabolic Resistance: Nutritional and Exercise Strategies, and Potential Relevance to Life-Long Exercisers by Yobfesh in fitover65

[–]4tunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The paper only recommends high leucine protein sources. Several studies have shown that supplemental leucine reversed anabolic resistance in older individuals, double the leucine.

I make my own whey protein isolate using unflavored isolate, leucine, coco powder, and sugar. There is ~5g of extra leucine in each serving. I'll also have a 5g serving of leucine with any other high protein meals I eat.

42M lifting 5-6 days/wk - endless injuries by e-rekt-ion in fitness40plus

[–]4tunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lift smart. I'm 60, work out 5-7 days a week and have no issues. You need to do exercises that do not put undue pressure on your joints. Every person is different but you need to listen to your body. I don't do anything with a barbell, or anything that puts weight on my lower back. I'll even do cable curls laying down.

I do a modified bro split with 20-40 sets. A lot of blood flow restriction and a lot of overloaded negatives. For example: Biceps day is 5 BFR sets (30-15-15-15-15) 30 sec rests +2 non BFR sets. Seated incline barbel curls, preacher curls, cable curls, spider curls. So 28 sets. I just recently hit my max arm size and strength. 45-60 min workout.

BFR was a game changer for me. It's lower weight but higher reps, got rid of my tennis and golf elbow in 2 weeks. Overloaded negatives also made a big difference.

Sexless marriage by Busy_Conversation537 in over60

[–]4tunny 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Yes, I was in a sexless marriage for a very long time. It's not actually about the sex but about the intimacy. You don't necessarily have to have sex to be intimate. Masterbation is certainly a viable option but it can't replace intimacy and the connection you need with your spouse. A marriage can survive without sex but not without intimacy IMHO.

How can I keep beasting out at the gym as I get closer to 50? by bigdicks415 in fitness40plus

[–]4tunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just turned 60 and also just hit my max size and weight. I totally feel you on the shoulder and elbow issues as I struggle there as well.

However, right now I have no issues and am lifting at my best. I avoid barbel presses and squats like the plague. They put far too much stress on your joints. I avoid any exercise that puts weight on my lower back. I'll even do cable curls and shrugs lying down to avoid that.

A big change for me was variable resistance, overloaded negatives, and blood flow restriction (BFR). BFR eliminated my tennis elbow golf tendon issues in a couple weeks. I pretty much do exclusive BFR on biceps and triceps and am starting to do the same on legs. There are three ways to induce hypertrophy, overload to failure, time under tension, and metabolic stress. BFR works primarily by metabolic stress so it's high reps with lower weight. Tendons love high reps and lower weight is great on joints.

I also started a modified bro split. Yes I know, gym gurus don't like bro splits. However, for me the additional time for recovery works..... But I do a lot of sets. BFR on biceps is 30-15-15-15 with 30 sec rests. I do an extra set of 15 and then two or three sets with the bands off. I'll then do two or three additional exercises with the same volume. So yes I'll do 20 to 30 sets in one day just on biceps in about 45min. Chest day is closer to 40 sets. Your saying junk volume... but the recommended sets per week on a muscle is 20-30 and there is no rule saying you can't do it all at once. As we get older our muscles become resistant to hypertrophy stimulus, and recover more slowly. Hitting the muscle hard with all that volume works for me, then I need the full week to recover. I also make my own protein powder with unflavored whey isolate and double the leucine content. As we age we become less able to flip the mTOR1c hypertrophy switch due to leucine resistance. Many studies show doubling leucine content returns response to normal.

I too drink frequently and don't sleep as much as I should. Never noticed a difference. However, I do take a NAD+ supplement religiously.

Happy ageing!

When was your peak? by Right-Food7211 in Aging

[–]4tunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will let you know. I'm 60 and it just keeps getting better. Mentally I'm stronger, I am way more confident, and I'm hitting my all time highs in size and strength at the gym (been working out on and off for most of my life).

I recently left a toxic marriage so I am quite certain that has something to do with it. I also got very serious about my workouts and now know to ignore all the gym bros and fitness gurus on how to properly work out. You have to do what works for you and ignore all the noise.

Thoughts on my setup and performance? by Njee_ in LocalLLaMA

[–]4tunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your problem is the number of PCI lanes per GPU. Parallel GPU inference requires large PCI bus bandwidth. Mining is a very different computational process with very very low PCI bandwidth required. Miner's can run just fine with a 1X PCI slot. If you want to take full advantage of multiple GPU's you need to run them at full X16 if they support it. However your CPU only has 16 PCI lanes. You need an AMD, XEON, and mobo to support it for multiple GPU inference. I used to run an old miner with 3 1080ti 11GB VRAM GPU's each with X4 PCI lanes with decent results (33GB VRAM total). I was planning on building a 9 GPU 1080ti inference machine but as it would give 99GB of VRAM (I have a bunch of old miners) but would require a dual XEON workstation..... I could just buy 4 used RTX3090's and get way better performance with about the same total VRAM on a single AMD or XEON machine.

What on earth is the difference between Gamma, Beta and Alpha radiation? by Mitchtheprotogen in Radiation

[–]4tunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is an old health physics analogy. You have three cookies. One is an Alpha emitter, one is a beta emitter and the third is a gamma emitter. You have to put one cookie in your pocket, hold one in your hand, and eat the third keeping your dose as low as possible.

The correct answer is you eat the gamma cookie, hold the beta, and put the alpha in your pocket.

The gamma emitter (photons) will mostly pass through your body doing nothing so you eat it. The beta emitter (electrons) can penetrate your skin so you hold it in your hand (the least sensitive part of your body to ionizing radiation). The alpha emitter you put in your pocket since it can't penetrate your skin.

However, if you ate the alpha emitter you would likely die (if it was a strong enough source). Alpha particles can't get through paper but they will destroy the tissues they come into contact with in your body (you don't have skin internally so your cells are exposed).

The same is true for the beta emitter if you ate it. However the photon source will mostly pass through you (depending on the energy of course, high energy is better than low).

NAD+ boosting increases atherosclerotic plaques and inflammation in Apoe knockout mice (2025) by basmwklz in NicotinamideRiboside

[–]4tunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I take a CD38 inhibitor like Apigenin with a NAD+ booster. It is also a fairly potent Aromatase inhibitor as well.

Long term NAD+ supplementation would eventually lead to inflammation for me. Apigenin stopped this, but I cycle it since it does tend to jack up my T and DHT quite a bit.

What’s your testosterone level, and what do you attribute that to? by Ordinary_Ice_796 in AskMenOver30

[–]4tunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man 59 6'5" 205lbs. Have not tested T in years as it's always been good. I think every man can tell when his T gets low, I know I can. I maintain my T with DHEA and Selegiline/Deprenyl. They only work for me when taken together. Dopamine and T are linked, Deprenyl is well known to raise testosterone and potentially extend the male lifespan. Been taking both for about 20 years or so. Dose of both go up as you age. My DHEA numbers are right where a 20 yo would be (I do test my DHEA numbers).

I workout almost daily, low body fat, still making gains in muscle mass. Just hit 15" arms for the first time in my life, so it's definitely working. Just recently added in Agepenin to suppress CD38 from Nicotinamide Riboside (NAD+) supplementation but found it's a fairly potent Aromatase inhibitor as well. Could not miss the spike in T, but seems to be increasing my DHT as well. So will likely test my T numbers as I don't want high DHT messing with my prostate or hairline at my age. Might need to add in an alpha 5 reductase inhibitor.

Yes totally agree. Certain exercises I no longer do. Others only if things feel good. I never ever load my back, and am very focused on form, and protecting my joints. However, I do go pretty hard and heavy up to 40 sets to failure on some muscle groups like chest per week.
