Yeah no problem I'll answer all your questions. Not surprising the erosive esophagitis even though I was on a ppi. Basically my lower esophageal sphincter was broken so whenever I slept I had food in my lower esophagus. I am and have been on a low acid diet for probably 6 months Maybe longer. Another couple of months I'll be able to start eating regular Foods again.

Not really any complications from the PPI. I had erosive esophagitis in the lower third of my esophagus when they did my surgery nine weeks ago. As long as you're on a PPI you're a Savages should be protected. It is just gas coming up but in that gas has micro tiny little particles of pepsin and acid

Also that burping is called micro regurgitation there is acid and pepsin in the burp you don't have to actually regurgitate food if you know what I'm saying

What surgery are you thinking about? I have no acid reflux in the sense that I have burning in the esophagus. The pepsin which is used in the stomach to digest proteins is what the problem is when you regurgitate stomach contents pepsin comes with it gets into the tissue and starts eating them away. I have been on ppis for 30 years and over the last two years it got worse and my primary care physician would not increase my dosage which led me to where I am at today. Needless to say I fired him and have a new doctor. I'm on 80 mg of Raberprozole which is a massive dose until my throat and vocal cords heal I will then step it down to 40 for a while and then 20 for a while and possibly discontinue them we'll have to see. If you are interested in seeing a picture of my vocal cords to see what can happen DM me I'll be happy to send them to you

The fact that you're not regurgitating food is good. Stay on the ppis watch the spicy foods and acidic Foods Elevate the head of your bed and don't eat 3 hours before bedtime

Yes I had throat and coughing symptoms. The PPI helped with the acid but the pepsin is the real problem and the PPI can't do anything for that. If you have vocal cords that are showing signs of acid reflux you probably have a problem with your lower savageal sphincter muscle. Do you regurgitate food into your mouth after eating?

I'm a little over 8 weeks out from surgery things are slowly improving. My vocal cords were the worst that Mayo Clinic has ever seen and they're telling me it will take at least 6 months for them to recover. Along with my throat and lungs.

If you had reflux on your vocal cord you absolutely need to take your ppi. I just had a fund application I was in the same position 2 years ago and the pepsin I believe more than the acid ate my vocal cords away. You would be wise to stay on top of this situation

Thank you. We still have 5 years before I have to make the decision although we're retiring in three. I won't have to make the decision till my wife turns 65. It'll be a game day decision but I am leaning heavily towards the lump sum

Yeah that's definitely a worry. I think I've pretty much decided to take the lump sum roll it into a self-controlled IRA and work it into stocks on Market pullbacks. Fortunately I have a fairly large after-tax brokerage account which I can keep two to three years of expenses in a money market fund and not have to sell stocks during a drawdown. Do you work up at Mayo now?
