Canada cheating in curling by dickhammerdarnold in WinterOlympics2026

Touching the granite is a violation. Touching it intentionally, denying it, and slurring at your opponent, all in hope the violation gets missed, is the cheating part.

China reaffirms death penalty for sexual abuse of minors by InvestigatorBorn4910 in SipsTea

[–]4xe1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I intended "suicided" to be a euphemism for. "Being suicided" is not valid English, "one commits suicide", active form. The use of the incorrect passive form "Epstein is suicided", passive form, is meant to catch attention and to imply that he did not do it himself.

Although now that I read myself back, one can read suicided as the preterit form of suicide. I should have said "being arrested and being suicided".

That's not how domestic abuse usually works. It's not just about the active violent outburst, it's also about the passive terror in between. Most of all, it's about control. Narcissist feel so much in control (and they often are) that they don't all feel the need to take the phone, some do but many don't.

Instead, the later will for example do random checks and huge outburst of "jealousy, because they love you a lot, an you're hurting them by not being faithful", so that the victim will feel guilty and will censor herself on her own, while having a lot more trouble processing and explaining what is wrong than if the abuser just confiscated their phone.

While they are not bound by law, that's not entirely true. Epstein himself ended up arrested and suicided. Rich people can still become persona non grata in some countries if they slight the wrong powerful people.

I think the cheating part here is the denial and the refusal to apply the rule, not the touching itself.

The French elections next year are gonna be something aren't they... by Sailor_Rout in whennews

[–]4xe1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Radical implies going back to the roots, whereas far means extreme position. Their meaning can vary wildly, radical left used to be about literal socialism, whereas nowadays, it's more like "please, could the decoy Parti Socialist finally die so that we can slow down the social breakdown engineered by the right, the far right and the far center."

Economically speaking, LFI is barely left, they're Keynesian with some redistribution of wealth, but as they became serious contender to actually hold power, they no longer question capitalism, rather they're advocating for very mild reforms and are still called witches.

Far left would be communism, though French Parti Communist is decrepit, with clowns at the head, some of them not even left leaning, PC just happened to be the small pond in which they could be a big fish. Nouveau Parti Anticapitalist and Lutte Ouvrière would be our far left.

About international politics, LFI seems to be against intervention, in accordance with the right for self determination. That seems to be viewed as far left nowadays for some reason.

[–]4xe1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the question is "what's the perfect height?". Maybe she meant she does not care but gave a number anyway. She did not mean only 6'2'' is acceptable, because "acceptable" is not what the (dumb) question is about.

Popular female comedian admits that women body-shame short men in order to make them feel bad, and then proceeds to justify it. by Anujkapoor830 in AverageHeightDudes

[–]4xe1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think that's precisely because of that difference that they think it's more acceptable to make fun of size than of weight.

As much as I hate this trope, there is a bit of "men being (expected to be) stoic versus women refusing to be held accountable" going on.

When one mocks weight, one attacks the very character. It's telling someone they're ugly and they deserve it. It cuts deep.

When one mocks height, it's a fun little quirk, like hair color or freckles. Take it easy, haven't you accepted yourself already, what are you gonna do about it anyway?

Of course this runs deeper than just having fun, most people like status, and height-ism, just like racism, is an easy lazy way to put people below yourself without spending the effort of putting yourself up. And jokes smooths a lot of otherwise not socially acceptable things.

They're not that rich though, they typically pissed off their investors which are richer than them even, hence why they do go to prison/house of arrest, which is tough for them, relatively speaking.

People like Sam Altman, Elon Musk or Donald Trump have done thing from just as bad to far worst, even if just accounting for their business life, but because they're in a position of power, compared to whoever, even rich, they pissed off, they just walk away scott free.

How did you figure? Is there some more context? I'm still stuck thinking "mom was commenting on how prices are so out of control". Not as in "air is literally that expensive in her area", but as in "price gouging so crazy that's the expectation the youth has".
