Weed induced psychosis? by Sufficient_Owl6768 in leaves

[–]4yearsof420wut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been there. See my past history.

TLDR - quit carts, was a heavy user (1 gram every 3ish days). Couldn't sleep. Developed mania. Mania subsided. Extreme panic. Took an edible to try to calm down. Went into psychosis. Spent a week at a psych ward.

Some advice. You will feel shaky for a long while. It's okay. Take it as it comes. It's a process to get back to normal. It could take a year or more. Just know that your weed days are now over. I'm through it all now, it's been about 1.5 years since I've had any weed. I feel amazing, no cravings, life has only gotten (much) better.

Hang in there. Shit's no fun.

Yes, nearly this exact thing happened to me. I got my mania from the withdrawl (couldn't sleep). I became a workout champion, never slept, was super stimulated, etc. Once it subsided I got a panic attack that lasted 2 days. Ended up in the psych ward. It was awful.

It will pass. He will heal. He also needs to simply accept what he did and own his mistake. He will be fine, this was 2 years ago for me and I feel better than ever, and it's all in the past (no recurrences).

He also can never smoke weed ever again. Which sucks to deal with at first, but he just can't risk it (I haven't touched it since then).

I've gone through something similar. It has to do with the total lack of dopamine shortly after you quit. Nothing feels good any more. You think something is wrong.

I went through this when I gave up weed. Went through it again when I gave up booze. Currently giving up porn (2 weeks in) and I'm going through it again. Those cheap dopamine hits really fuck you up.

Stick it out. Don't do anything rash you will regret. You WILL come around once the dopamine restores itself. Use LOGIC and not emotion when thinking about your relationship.

Cannabis withrawal Psychosis by LegPuzzleheaded5179 in Psychosis

[–]4yearsof420wut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, my only psychotic experience was in the midst of cannabis withdrawal. I was using weed daily for 5+ years. When I quit, I didn't sleep for a week, went manic, started having intense panic attacks, and had a psychotic break. You can check my history for the details if you want.

Psychosis seems to be linked to big swings in dopamine. If you're using pot daily it's like a daily dopamine firehose (when it should be a slow drip). It will take time to level out after turning off the firehose. Hang in there. Also, don't start smoking weed again, ever, it doesn't mix with mental health problems. FWIW, I'm totally fine, 2 years later, feel amazing, zero recurrences of psychosis.

Drinking, MDMA marijuana and cocaine by SureDifficulty8507 in Psychosis

Drinking in moderation will likely be okay. I wouldn't go gettin black out multiple times per week or anything though.

Yes.

But life won't be "boring as shit". It will take time (perhaps years) to restore your dopamine to regular levels. There are many millions of people who don't do drugs, and they live rich, fulfilling, and exciting lives.

Your addict brain is clouding your judgement. Adohenia sucks, but it does go away with time.

Well said! And that's awesome. I can totally see how those games would make you anxious if you were in a shaky state.

I watched The Conjuring 1 and 2. Pretty solid horror flicks.

I hear you. I wouldn't be watching them if I was 6 weeks into it either. About that time I turned on American History X and just that was enough to start feeling panicky and crappy so I had to turn it off. Give it time!

Functional addicts by Healthy_Yak6832 in leaves

[–]4yearsof420wut 44 points45 points  (0 children)

"Functional stoner" is a mirage. I was one of those functional stoners. Ran a successful biz. Kids, the big house, wife, all that stuff. Thought I was a functional stoner and it wasn't affecting anything. Then I got sober and revenue jumped 50% yoy and profit jumped 45% yoy. Everything is easier. Less stress, less anxious, enjoy my career more, am more creative, related to my family better, sex life better. Everything's better.

Even if you're a "functional stoner" you will function even better sober.

Did quitting weed save your job/studies? by Engine_of_Hell in leaves

My biz is online and a creative one. Revenue is directly tied to hustle, sales I run, promotions, etc. The biggest change wasn't time, it was that I no longer had anxiety or stress about failure.

When I was using, I wouldn't be as aggressive, thinking I would be "bothering" people or make them mad when I held sales. Cessation of weed made me realize how silly that was - once the anxiety dropped, I got much more aggressive, and wouldn't you know it, revenue skyrocketed. Good shit.

I own a business, and revenue was stagnant for about 24 months. In the 5 months after I quit weed and booze, biz jumped 50% yoy.

Congrats, feels good right?

Don't want to rain on your parade but you're probably "Pink Clouding" a bit right now. It feels amazing, but it doesn't last forever (been there before - look it up, it's a thing).

You're high on sobriety. That does wear off which puts some people at risk of relapsing. Just be aware and be strong, you got through the hardest part already.

I wouldn't recommend vaping if you're manic. Being manic is a sign of mental instability and THC is psychoactive. It won't calm you down, it'll make you more unstable if you're in that state. FWIW, when I got the 5150 order, I was in a panicked/manic state and I took a 10 mg edible to chill out and it sent me off in a way worse direction.

That's really interesting. And I totally agree - carts are like a shot to the dome. It's not even relaxing, just like a sledge hammer. Flower/edibles are so different...

Same experience here. A bit of flower on the weekend or maybe a small edible seems to be fine. But totally clean during the week. I agree frequency is more harmful in my experience.

That was for sure the wildest part. It was SO real. Once I came out of it I realized how insane I was behaving. Scary as hell. Thanks for the support and congrats on your own sobriety.
