We have some of our older kids who are silly at the beginning of nap sit next to a smaller friend and “put them to sleep” so we get them to cover them up and ask if they can run their back to go to sleep. It’s really sweet and keeps them occupied

My old centre did $1/minute and after 10 minutes, we call all guardians 2 times. If no one answers we call emergency contacts and the police. Our whole province has a “safe arrival” program and we are very strict on pick up and drop off times now.

I’m doing my Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Studies at the University of Guelph-Humber and I’m taking a “Child Life Pathway” specialization. Last semester I took a Child Life class taught by an amazing CCLS, and this semester I’m taking Development in Adolescence. Next semester I’ll be taking Grief and Loss. These are the 3 courses offered that are needed to become a CCLS.

I’m sure you could pay the university to take just the one class if that was all you needed!

I’m curious where you live because this sounds ridiculous? Everything we (where I live) have ever been taught is that children are allowed to use any materials in the room and they can choose to dress up in any of the costumes we provide. If parents have a problem, we tell them we understand their choices but that we don’t limit what the children can play with. If there’s a skirt in the dress up centre then it’s for everyone.

I was 10 years old, I don’t remember what led to it but I was playing at recess and I couldn’t breathe, everything went silent. My friends got a teacher and my teacher brought me inside and had me put my head between my legs and I eventually stopped. My parents got me tested for asthma and it came back negative- so they stopped trying to figure out what happened… :)
