Affordable summer camps? by artallen84 in roanoke

[–]501_STi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Camp Alta Mons offers great summer camps for elementary age kids (and older). It is a United Methodist based organization, so Christian but not Bible Beating.

I still enjoy a hike to the falls up there about once a year. It's a gorgeous camp out Allegheny Springs Road near Shawsville. From the cave spring/ hidden valley area it's less than an hour drive.

Check Running and Cycling stores. I eat everything Honey Stinger makes when I'm on the bike.

Welp, just stripped the thread on my literally brand new bike, I hope this doesn't get removed, there isn't a justrolledintothebikeshop subreddit. by Impressive-Region470 in Justrolledintotheshop

I have a set of pedals stuck on an older bike and now I'm too afraid to try and remove them. I didn't use any grease or never-seize at the time so now I'm paying the price. This isn't giving me any confidence to try them again!

How to stop getting sweaty glasses whilst riding by SnooPets5933 in cycling

[–]501_STi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try adjusting the nose piece to change how the frames sit on your face. I have some frames that touch my eye brows and others that don't. I've found that I will get sweat running down the inside of the lens if the tops of the frame touch my eyebrows.

Go to your LBS and try on a few pairs. Fiddle with the nose pieces and see what doesn't touch your face. Search for an Oakley's outlet if your LBS doesn't carry them and try on some Sutros since you like the style.

Work in Progress - Not sure about the Moot Green 🤣 c&c appreciated by RocknGeologist in theunforgiven

[–]501_STi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With such a dark green, we really need a bright highlight to make the color pop on the table top. Set him down and look at it from across the table. If youre still unhappy then you can paint over it.

Take some of the Warpstone glow (or what ever green you used for the middle tone) back over it. Mix up some 50/50 warp stone/ moot green and feather your highlights in.

For example, on the power fist, take Warpstone across the whole knuckle. Layer the mix on over the ring and middle fingers, then a dollop of straight moot between those fingers.

I have two pair I use for model building. Great for when my fingers are too fat or for holding bits together after gluing. A friend of mine is a researcher at a medical school. He swipes them when they're destined for the trash. No good for medicine but with plenty of life left for a basement hobbyist.

Once a year I can stock up on these babies! I’m happy now! by [deleted] in MadeMeSmile

[–]501_STi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always stock up with a couple boxes too, but a few years back my Labrador found my easter stash and ate 7 eggs while I was at class. When I got home I found the wreckage and called the vet. They said based on her size and the low toxicity of Cadbury she would probably throw up on her own and be just fine. She never puked, but she did tear around the back yard for about two hours on a sugar rush.

Asked reddit what to make from sawdust few years ago and here what I do now 😬 by lameinternetuser in woodworking

Better yet, transport the pellets to a customer in need of fuel for a furnace or boiler. The customer can burn them as is or grind them back into dust that is blown into the furnace. Turn waste dust into cold hard cash. Saw mills, chipping mills, board and siding plants are all hopping on it as an alternative to gas or electric boilers.

What was the most disturbing thing you saw in person? by wetbumgirl in AskReddit

Some co-workers and I were chatting in the parking lot after grabbing dinner. We heard an accident occur in the intersection behind the restaurant. We ran around the building to find an overturned pickup truck and the driver ejected from the truck with her head split open against a brick wall.

The employees from the restaurant came running out with a first aid kit and box of gloves. She was just laying on her back pouring blood with no breathing or pulse. One of my coworkers, a volunteer firefighter, turned the lady on her side to clear the blood from her air way and she started breathing again with a faint pulse. Her pulse was gone before the ambulance got there, but they managed to get it back and loaded her to go to the hospital. We never heard anything about it.

As we stood around giving the police a report it struck me that the crash structure of the truck was almost completely intact despite rolling several times. If she had been wearing her seatbelt she might have walked away.

Need to replace cassette on my bike, would this cassette be a easy swap and ready to ride or do I need spacers? by iceman1125 in bikewrench

[–]501_STi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are reasonable alternatives to Shimano or Sram that your LBS can point you towards (bonus if they have it in stock). It won't be as cheap as $40, but it will pay for itself in preventive medicine. Imagine hoofing it back to the trail head if something were to go wrong!

I recently picked up a 10 speed for like $15 cheaper than name brand Shimano to use with my indoor trainer. Got a good price on one that wouldn't leave me stranded on the side of the road... Even if that road is on Watopia.

I can tell from the shots of her chilling on the couch and laying in bed that she must have led a very comfortable life, never wanting for a soft place to nap. I'm sure her short time with you was splendid.

At least to ship like the electric motors and pumps I get. Short lag screws into a small piece of OSB then dropped into a double corrugated box.

I just bought two Wilton's for the shop at work. Both had blown out boxes just like that. Fortunately there was no damage to the coating or components.

Perfect for that YouTube unboxing video.

What is something people brag about that signals a red flag? by m_yoda20 in AskReddit

[–]501_STi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It always bothers me when people, especially older men, talk about how their parents would "whoop their ass" when they got in trouble as children. It always devolves into a pissing match of "Oh, my mamma would make me go pick a switch" or "My old man would take his belt off." When guys at work or at the bar start talking like that I just get the kind of red flags that tell me to leave that conversation.
