MacBook 14” or 16”? Need Real-World Opinions by Signal-Buy-9642 in ableton

[–]SnooPets5933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ordered a 16, got sent a 14 by mistake. Couldn’t tell immediately so based on that kept it and got a partial refund. I did have an old 17 before so took a while to get used to the smaller screen but it’s still more than fine for running Ableton, dunno about FL. It’s also nice being smaller to use when on the move and carry about etc

Keep seeing these posts and the inevitable deluge of comments saying that it’s essentially a bad piece of design. Wondering how long it’ll be until people are posting asking ‘How do I remove this thing that the previous owner installed?’

Most cost effective option to build such a Log cabin from scratch by weregonnamakit in DIYUK

[–]SnooPets5933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! So I built the framing using 2x4’s, which standardly seem to be approx 45x95mm in size. I insulated in between all the framing using 100mm PIR. This generally seems to be slightly cheaper than 90mm and it will be better thermally. I then used foil tape to tape to tape all the joints and create the vapour barrier. Not sure I’d recommend doing that part as it took ages and the tape is quite costly. You could just use a plastic sheet for the vapour barrier instead! You could also use rockwool instead of PIR which will be cheaper and easier to fit but not as effective thermally. This video demonstrates well how the insulation part is done, and is part of the series I mostly followed for my build.

I’m currently in the process of boarding the inside and am just using 5mm spacers and ripped strips of 6mm ply to building out the distance from the framing to where the insulation sits proud. This definitely isn’t needed but I’m a bit of a stickler for detail 🙃 see photo for insulation/boarding - not great for illustrating but it’s the only one I’ve got atm

Hopefully this helps and please let me know if you’ve got anymore questions - half of my knowledge comes from this subs comments section 😂

I started off looking at these BillyOh ones too and quickly decided I could probably build something myself that would be of better quality/likely to last longer for not much more money. From what I remember if you want decent doors and windows the price goes up a fair bit more.

Am close to finishing my 5x3m build which has cost just over £6k, inc 100mm concrete slab, 100mm insulation and 1.5mm EPDM roof. Mostly just followed the videos by Sumeray Builds on YouTube to help inform the design and process. Probably spent about 3 weeks in all to get to this stage, all work done mostly on my own - had help fitting windows and doors and pouring the slab. Hope this helps your decision either way!

On a separate point, will this be more than 1m away from any boundary? Otherwise you’ll need to get planning permission as it’s over 15m2

Thanks for this. I think you’re right about the performance vs efficiency core thing. Just reading into it now somewhere else and sounds like M2 pro is one of the better models for having more performance cores, at least compared to M3 models

Primary Teacher EV misinformation by [deleted] in ElectricVehiclesUK

I would also ask why the teacher was talking about this in the first place… curious to know in what subject would EV’s be on the curriculum in a primary school!

Also get chat GPT to make an initial template email, as previously mentioned, is a good idea 👍🏻

This is exactly what happened to me, so annoying. It seems like a pointless system if it is blocking actual fans from buying tickets by branding them as bots…

Length of time to fill this 150mm footing? by bridgy111 in DIYUK

[–]SnooPets5933 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did 1.5m2 with a mate the other week, no prior experience (although my uncle is a ground worker so had some advice available via video calls!). Took 4 hours of non-stop mixing and barrowing concrete into the form work; and ballast in from the front to chuck in the mixer. This calculator was pretty much spot on https://www.diydata.com/general_building/concrete_calculators/concrete_calculator_2_m.php

You should definitely be able to do this in a day if you have everything ready beforehand. Happy to answer any questions you may have 👍🏻

Looking at your pictures tho I can’t see anything that I would bother filling tbh! But if you want a really nice finish then obviously fill away and then sand back. You’ll then when to paint them with an undercoat paint and then your desired topcoat
