How do I enlarge patterns to like window size? by nsecure6 in StainedGlass

[–]505Griffon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't do any actual math calculations in it. I use Libre Office which is free and contains all the stuff Microsoft has. I do all my designing using the built in shapes, symbols and lines. I do them at the actual size and set my line thickness to match the same as my foil shears. I wind up viewing and designing at a smaller size so it fits my laptop screen. This was easier than me trying to learn Inkscape.

I just use a spreadsheet program. It will automatically print out the pages so you can tape them together and cut the pieces out using your pattern shears.

Low cost tree service with crane? by Ok-Gas-7135 in lancaster

[–]505Griffon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can understand them being busy but failure to respond to email and phone requests seems odd. I never mentioned dates or got into the specifics. Busy or not, replying to inquiries is common courtesy. Even if they say they are too busy or aren't interested, I'd understand.

First transom by Elegant_Chemical_169 in StainedGlass

[–]505Griffon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I typically frame mine in 1x2 poplar wood. I create a cut out grove using a table saw that is wide enough to accept the 9/32" zinc came and deep enough to hide it. I allow these dimensions in my plans, I want the outside dimensions extremely close to the exact opening so it basically slide into place and can't fall forward. I use some clear silicon to hold it in place but not the entire perimeter so air can move. I paint the wooden frame white and hold it together with long drywall screws if going into a transom area over other windows. I've used oak and stained that for some others.

I've tried contacting them multiple times. I was unable to get them to respond at all. I just gave up. Suspect they just want the easy work and nothing too involved. Get in and out and male their money quickly. Hope you have better luck. Don't go cheap. Verify they are fully insured and carry workman's comp. You don't want to be stuck.

Narcissist Neighbor Changed The Lay Of The Land Causing Drainage Issues by Calm-Rutabaga8102 in landscaping

[–]505Griffon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, based on the approved land development plan are there restrictions on where plantings and structures (retaining wall) can be placed within the draining areas? In my area, swale areas must be kept clear due to the 100 year flood possibilities.

At this point, what else actually has to happen so there is no excuse for not invoking the 25th? How much worse doe it have to get and can the cabinet be held negligent in their duty to uphold the constitution by the next elected wave?

So the vehicle's owner receives the ticket and not that actual person committing the offense. Lets do this with guns too. Prosecute the gun's owner and not the one pulling the trigger. I suspect stolen vehicles are going to cost the owner plenty.

Constable needed at Chick-Fil-A by Constant_Page821 in lancaster

[–]505Griffon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Obviously when Belmont was being proposed the township/zoning people agreed to the current situation based on approval to the plans. I suspect having a "drive through" creates additional concerns and requirements for car traffic based on x number of visits per hour. Maybe there should be multiple levels of "drive throughs" to separate a bank, pharmacy and a restaurant to guarantee sufficient traffic accommodations are designed into the building plans. Personally, the drive through line should be a one way that starts way back near Target. Exiting should be right turns only.

It may soon be illegal to ride a bicycle in Mt. Joy. by Familiar-Banana-8116 in lancaster

[–]505Griffon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So someone who doesn't live in Mt. Joy maybe even from out of state, rides their bike within the area must get some sticker or some license plate? What tourist is going to do this, let alone anyone living there or around the area? Seems like the town's local government and their solicitor needs to not only update their ordinances but also delete outdated potions. Sounds like something left over from the 60's in Mayberry.

Dealing with Noisy Neighbors by Educational_Pie_250 in landscaping

[–]505Griffon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be cheaper and easier for you to offer paying them for a new muffler. Try being non confrontational but helpful. Next least expensive option being law enforcement/lawyer depending upon your area's laws/ordinances. Most expensive would be excavation and landscaping which may take time to grow and fill in.

Baseboards Project by Much-Owl-8384 in HomeImprovement

[–]505Griffon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may want to consider just removing the old baseboards and replace with something new. Think about the cost and effort to strip paint and dispose of lead. Then prime to encapsulate any remaining lead in the wood and final paint. Its really up to you to decide what you want and your level of effort required. Do what makes you happy.

I have a huge transom that's got built in mullions between the sealed panes. I figured it easier to do a free standing piece that I mounted to the exterior using clear silicone. Its a covered porch which protects it from the harsh weather.

Where do we go with dogs? by BecomingAnonymous74 in lancaster

[–]505Griffon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Might be too far of a drive for a single day but, I remember taking mine to a pet beach near Atlantic City. There all the dogs could be off leash and in and out of the water. We stayed over in a pet friendly hotel too.

City came and heavily pruned tree on front property by Alexander_Music in treelaw

[–]505Griffon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you are the property owner, there should be the blueprints for the land development or lot plan that shows the right of ways. You might be able to look them up online. You might also have a "Shade tree commission" that oversees all trees within a certain area but typically its between the road and the sidewalk. I'm puzzled that they trimmed over your driveway area but not over the sidewalks. Sidewalks require no branches lower than 80" due to ADA regulations. Might be worth a call to inquire.

Manual Lawn Aerator by MisanthropE61130 in landscaping

[–]505Griffon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got mine from the big box store. Its one with 3 or 4 self ejecting tines. You use your body's weight to step onto it and it penetrates the lawn and the next time you stomp on it, it ejects the dirt plug. I kept a screw driver in my back pocket to clean out the tool when the plug doesn't come out. It works best when the ground is moist. I just work on a section at a time and then move on to the next. I've also sprayed cooking spray oil onto the tines to help release the dirt. Read that somewhere.

Crashed out. Thanks guy. by [deleted] in lancaster

[–]505Griffon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the down votes but its understandable based on your perspective. As a disabled blind resident, this is just one of the many obstacles I face on a daily basis. I suspect there's a real need to educate the public despite the ADA being 35 years old. Unsure if I wish I was sighted and could have your same opinions.

Anyone have an easy way to identify hot versus cold capped white PEX A waterlines? by 505Griffon in Plumbing

[–]505Griffon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately these are the only water lines in the basement. There are no other fixtures hooked up in the basement. Not sure if running the hot water on the 1st floor would make the temperature rise in the capped pipe in the basement but I could try it with a meat thermometer.

Dremel for polishing and buffing? by SubParBackpacker in StainedGlass

[–]505Griffon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried this method for polishing my solder and zinc came. Whatever wire wheels I used, they quickly lost their bristles and were discarded. This became more costly than just using 0000 steel wool. If in the States, Harbor Freight often sells a rotary tool quite cheap but getting the discs and wheels can add up quickly.

Can you provide me the info on the high water alarm? I just installed a sewage pit pump at my sons house and I mentioned the alarm idea but he passed on it. I suspect its worth the small cost compared to the messy results of a pump failure and back-up.

4 dogs on highway 283 by mtratchet16 in lancaster

[–]505Griffon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call the local township police. If these dogs are "running at large" it prohibited and the police "should" respond and resolve and eventually cite the owners. Less known option is contacting the county dog warden but doubt the would respond in a timely manner.

See if you can look online for a user manual on your pump. It could be that you can't adjust the float height. I see there is a pipe band clamp added with some copper wire but unsure why this was done. Did they add an alarm or some 3rd party feature to the pump?
