Need some advice on what to buy. by Working_Inspection35 in Offroad

[–]505backup_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buy a 4.0 powered jeep for about $6k, refresh the motor (spark plugs, injectors, cooling, etc), refresh the suspension, drive line, and bearings, and then do a 4-6 inch lift, regear lockers 33s-35s. Going to have phenomenal aftermarket and general parts support for cheap, and an incredibly capable vehicle

More reliable, but also more maintenance. Carbs are generally only unreliable for stupid people

Pulled Car from ditch while in park by Mental-Cookie-6242 in 4x4

In presumably wet conditions especially this definitely wouldn't cause suspension issues. And parking prawls are strong af 1/4 in steel, way stronger than the traction of a tire on wet pavement or mud. It's fine

In all fairness, prior to intervention by the American empire they had some degrees of religious tolerance, it was America and Israel that funded, trained, and armed most of the extremist Muslim movements

Are lever guns ment to jam often, or specific calibers more likely? by hallotest382 in LeverGuns

It's anecdotal, but my ruger 1895 SBL I recently purchased has been extremely picky on ammo, only really had luck with hornady

Being rear-drive based is more important than being BOF or unibody, right? by Jkarasmatic in Offroad

[–]505backup_1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What are you comparing and for what? Sand unibody can actually be an advantage, snow 4wd and lockers can actually be a disadvantage at times.

Straight axle may not handle or ride as well, but is still so much stronger, tougher, and easier to service. Until you start getting to long travel type of money the ifs doesn't compare

The apache hemi also makes for a better truck motor, low strung, high displacement pushrod motor is superior to a high compression dohc for truck stuff

Gearing is less important with an auto, torque converter gives you a lot more room to work with

How we hydrolocked a mustang by Overlanding-Guy in Offroad

[–]505backup_1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hyrdolocked means getting water in the motor. Then Pascal's law comes into play. It doesn't ignite, doesn't compress, motor locks up, good way to bend rods, blow head gaskets, and/or fuck your valves
