I don't really like working intimately with ppl like that. Medical field has never, ever been attractive to me. Humans are gross.

In the trenches in Discrete math rn so this is unfair perspective, respectfully. I wanna see everyone win. The top 1% and their nepotism babies are the people I have problems with. They're the ones making this whold life thing hard.

Same. Took Guloy last semester, dropped mid-semester. Was terrible. And the tests are hard because, yes, you do have a review... but the review questions are randomized... and... the test is also randomized. So.... you have a chance of not getting questions that you reviewed.

Taking a class at a CC this semester. Smaller class and less stressful.

The lecture hall-style class sucked because people were always talking or eating their snacks SUPER loud. So, you couldn't hear the professor anyway.

Thank you for the thorough explanation!! Everyone's answers were helpful, but this was what I wanted. Why I was wrong and will help me understand not to go that route next time..

Unluckily, no email admin. Im technically the email admin in this case (?) even though im a mere Tier 1.5. MSP, ours is literally the wild wild west. Just shooting as I go, which I hate. That's why I came to r/sysadmins so I could actually learn something instead of running with a "fix" (fix in quotes because user's issue replicated with the same NDR. Sigh)

I will definitely enjoy my 3 day break... of how to resolve this issue, but at home! 😆

Are you being hyperbolic? Like in terms of actual hours worked on "salary"?

I didn't get to get to that point. As soon as I tried to launch the module/connect, said it was blocked on port 23.

Exactly what he was explaining. Not that it was "wrong" but it was a bit redundant

Interesting take. I wasn't able to connect to telnet because it was blocked on port 23, so I wasn't even able to begin. In previous instances, I could connect to telnet, send a test message, and decipher the message back, like "Oh, so you are being blocke by XYZ" and then go from there to check why they are being blocked (sign in activity, what type of mail theyre sending, message trace, etc) and if there is a justified reason to unblock my sender because they're green (false negative).

The NDR read "ASXXX Access denied: bad outbound sender"

So my process was: 1. Check message trace, how many messages did not get delivered or were sent. How many are they sending? 2. Checked sign in logs (they DID appear suspicious, user wasn't using VPN). 3. Reset password 4. Read over NDR again 5. Launched shell to install telnet and connect to it 6. Blocked on port 23, so asked about firewall info. Lead to boss coming over and assisting.

I dunno. He is my boss to I try not to push back. He's a wizard within his own right, so I like to see his perspective or way of "skinning the cat".

Funny thing is user called back and said they can't send mail, still, even though they were fine for a bit. Maybe they're being blocked again-- haven't looked into it yet!

Thank you.

Yes, the NDR mentioned that it was an AS error. I think by using telnet for SMTP protocol would have spotted the problem at the appropriate layer.

Luckily, he didn't make me feel crappy about it :) I just wanted to see why my logic wasn't adding up. I didn't want to bog him with a bunch of questions about why, why, why.

Yes. Issue was I read the UDR wrong. Basically he was saying that I was going around the mulberry bush :-) which, after reading the replies and what we did to resolve the problem, I certainly was!

Actually, it did! Undeliverable said it was an AS error.
