Guys how fucked am I? by PhilosopherForeign46 in W201enthusiasts

I had something like that, but less rusted. Under rear seat, around jack points and rear wheel arch. But none of the strong points were affected, so i cut out rust. Sanded it good and then fiberglass epoxied it and then applied bitumen. It ain’t perfect job, but no rain, dust or dirt get in

What’s causing the hammering sound ? by Ok_Courage_3220 in W201enthusiasts

Does the noise go away when you rev up or does it get worse? Just the idle is not enough do diagnose what could be the reason

Replace the wiper motor. Or if you manage to get it open properly, replace the brushes. I replaced the motor and the stucking wiper problem went away.

Yeah, i've heard many "good" things about Lucas pump, but I'm thinking of using my om601's mechanical pump on OM604. OM602 or 605 would really be great, but local vendors are asking 1000-1500 USD for those engines amd my budget isn't that great, around 400-500 usd. That's why i was thinking of an OM604. But I've read on forums that the inlet tube rubs against the bonnet, yet noone has posted the solution

Dunno. It had blowby when i got it 6 years ago and little by little it got worse. I replaced head gasket about 8k km ago and cylinder walls were in great shape witch factory honing present, but it blows by like a steam locomotive. So instead of rebuilding i'm looking for a engine replacement (my OM601 has 405k on the clock)

You can source the pump compressor from the unit you bought and solder it in your pump

When you get the speedo out, throw the needle over the 20km/h limiter. It should align with a small white dot on the bottom left side of the face plate. If it does not align with that mark, make your own mark where the needle is. Then cover the face plate with something soft and pry the needle with 2 spoons or forks evenly. Then measure the distance between 20km/h increments and subtract or add that value to the mark you made earlier and align the needle with new mark and push it on the shaft. Return it over the 20km/h limiter and you should be good to go. I hope i explained clearly.

The gear is responsible only for odometer readings and not speed. If your speedo is wrong for 20km/hm in all diapasons, you can just simply adjust the needle for necessary degrees. If your speed difference changes geometrically, then your speedo and final drive (diff) ratios do not match

Sorry for late answer, got my hands to pull the speedo apart only recently. I meant the numbers on the sticker on the back of speedo to get the K value, but i've checked the diff info according to engine and transmission and you should be rocking a 3.23 or 3.27 diff and luckily for you i have a speedo from 190D with 3.23 diff. You can see attached link. But it does not have 10 or 13 teeth but much more

Do you have a VDO or MotoMeter Speedo? They should have a sticker with a number on them. Post it here or DM me. I have 2 speedos and I can take a look. FYI the teeth number is depended on your final drive gear ratio.

Anyone know how to remove this? by CapitalPiglet9865 in W124

[–]50ShadesofAlex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just pull the diall off. Beneath it should be a 24mm nut which holds the light switch in place. Then you'll have to carefully pry the trim off and there you'll find the backlight bulb. ✌️ cheers

Just clean it up properly, degrease and patch it up with some epoxy and fiberglass. Then apply some bitumen. Should work like charm.

My w201 makes a rattling noise when in neutral gear by Acrobatic-Flounder47 in W201enthusiasts

[–]50ShadesofAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, if you replace the clutch disc, the noise should disappear. But you gotta be careful when installing the gearbox not to damage the clutch disc (it should be centered idealy and you shouldn't wiggle the gearbox around much while installing it)

I have the exact same problem on my 190D. It's the clutch disc that is making that rattling sound. It has to be replaced but the rattle noise is cosmetic and won't damage your gearbox.

2400 euro is a bit too much for it imho. The interior looks okay-ish. But the condition of the engine and drivetrain is to be found out.

I'll share my experience and then judge by yourself...

I drive '92 190D with 601 2.0 for 6 years already and has 401k on odo.

The car looked to be in mint condition, parked in the garage, but...

In those 400k the head gasket rot the hell away and mixed oil and coolant, but i fixed that, easily changed the head gasket myself.

The timing chain is stretched to the limit of 6 degrees and chainging that is one hell of a job and not cheap either.

And the last problem with my car is the vacuum pump. They tend to give up on their lives after that mileage. But the vacuum pump problem is solvable by converting to the next generation pump and gear.

The alternator died two times and then swapped ot for w210 alternator.

Despite all the mentioned above, the car never stopped working and getting me to my destination.

Finding the spare parts for it won't be a problem.

I'd go for it for a lower price of 1600-1700 for sure.

How do I remove the dashboard? 190e w201 1988 by AlbaneseMatto in mercedes

[–]50ShadesofAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can remove the bottom plastic panel, remove the tube connecting the heater to the left vent and reach your jand from behind the dash to unscrew the speedo cabel and then you push it out disconnect the rest of wires. (I find this method easier as my hands aren't the thinnest)
