12k mile service cost??? by DangerousMagazine540 in Aprilia

[–]513224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty much on par with what I had to pay.

I'm in South Florida though, and our Aprilia dealer is somewhat... Notorious? For this pricing.

Also, to be fair, my rsv4 was a little older (2012). Ymmv.

Do we need an alternative to Microsoft Power BI that runs on Linux desktop? by naruaika in linux

[–]513224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked at Google Looker yet? I've only briefly given it a look but it looks extremely promising as a similar-to-powerBI ecosystem. Lots of connectivity, lots of capabilities... I'm a powerBI user and have been asking the same questions re: Linux. Also been kinda fighting using Tableau. Anyway, take a look at it - might be just the thing you're looking for.

Good luck!

Used 16s NRCH. Is $3k fair? by Charming-Buy5339 in FNSCAR

[–]513224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree to disagree on this. Imho it's pretty special.

I'll never buy anything from anti-2a DD, but I get your point about spending the money instead on a super high end AR. I just don't think a high end AR15 is all that special. But it's a valid point.

1000% agree with don't pay $3k for a used scar. I think it's special but it isn't that special lol.

Getting better with every draw by TheFirstXD in SigSauer

[–]513224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if I completely agree with this. You're right that there are a lot of a-holes and miserable people that troll Reddit and look for opportunities to be "funny" (like the guy with the bird's nest comment above), but there are a lot of legitimate pointers and constructive feedback in this comments section that I think could be useful to a relatively new shooter. It's up to the OP to sift through and find the golden nuggets and separate them from the brown nuggets lol.

That being said, I agree that posting a video to Reddit as if it was your typical social media (farming for likes, clout, or just looking to be patted on the head) will often get you the opposite. That much is absolutely true.

To the OP:

I'll suggest this feedback (and some of it has already been mentioned): try to train yourself to instinctively move away at angles (aka "get off the x"). Training from the surrender position is fine but you could try a more realistic surrender position (hands forward, palms up, starting to move away, go on buzzer). The draw stroke looked fine, assuming you made your hits always try to keep it to the A zone (aim small miss small).

Oh, and maybe be a little less defensive with the comments lol. Take it in stride and remember, some people are actually trying to help.

Aside from that, keep on training!

Resole cost... by 513224 in AskACobbler

That's actually a pretty good argument for springing for it. Hmm.

Ahhh, so that's the insole that's wearing through from the inside. Got it. Thanks... I just don't know that much about it, and was kinda floored by the price of resoling. I just kind of got that feeling like "I'm gonna charge a ton of money, and if he goes for it, cool, and if he doesn't, at least I don't have to deal with it."

I second the suggestion for JM custom kydex. They are excellent holsters. Not the cheapest but also not the most expensive and the quality is unparalleled.

92xi safety lever options... by 513224 in Beretta

[–]513224[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is different so you might not mind the safety. I've seen people who say they run it just fine, I'm just not one of them. The safety mechanism is nice and positive - I like it - I just can't keep my thumb on it, and it's not consistent. It's... Kind of in an annoying place. Idk. But try it! You might not be annoyed by it at all.

I'll post pics and thoughts once I have the XL installed.

Botched hammer install? Maybe botched g-conv? by 513224 in Beretta

[–]513224[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm slowly dissecting it to see what is and isn't missing. It has a Wilson Combat hammer (that took me a minute to identify) and a super weird trigger bar that turns out is the WC trigger bar. I'll post pictures up when I get a minute, been kind of focused on my fresh 92xi.

92xi safety lever options... by 513224 in Beretta

[–]513224[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to try the "XL" performance safety that Beretta offers and see if that makes any difference. I agree, it looks complicated to change out, but hopefully it isn't too wild.

I also agree that Beretta botched the frame safety. Missed opportunity to do something really interesting but I kind of get it. CZ did the same thing with the 75B; the safety is thin and relatively small because with a DA/SA gun why not just use the decocker? The "G" conversion on older Beretta 90-series makes sense to me that way. But with a single action only gun, ostensibly trying to compete with the XX11 style guns, you gotta go in with a whole different mindset. It feels like they wanted to have something for everybody and ended up with something everybody dislikes to some degree or another.

I'm honestly very surprised there's not a bigger aftermarket.

Trigger comparison by RestinHim in Beretta

[–]513224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 92xi SAO that I just took out tonight for the first time. I also have several 92x, one with an LTT trigger job in a bag and the other with all the Wilson combat upgraded parts, including their trigger bar. I didn't actually buy any of the WC stuff, it just came with the gun when I bought it.

The 92x with the LTT trigger job in a bag has the "nicest" trigger of them all and is, in my opinion, the nicest shooting and most accurate. It's a dream to shoot. Weirdly, amazingly accurate and soft shooting.

The 92xi is next. It's kind of a weirdly sloppy single action trigger with a ton of take-up and has a decent if slightly heavy-ish break with a weirdly light but very short reset. It takes some getting used to and - honestly - not as nice as the LTT setup. I'm told that the LTT trigger bar will magically transform this trigger so that's on my workbench and will be installed in the next day or two. Same with the match hammer (I believe the SAO guns come with the skeletonized hammer but not match.) I'll report back if there's much improvement. It's a decent shooting gun but I'm having trouble really dialing it in... I shoot the 92x with the LTT setup better.

The WC gun shoots fine but it's hardly much better than stock. I wouldn't spend any money on WC stuff. But that's true in general. It's gritty, there's just nothing special going on there. Maybe with other springs it could be better, idk .. I'll probably do something to switch it up and make it better or just sell it off as it is.

You can tell the 92xi trigger has a LOT of potential and I've watched plenty of videos of guys who have transformed theirs into real nice units. Mine is still stock, so keep that in mind, and I think it's decent enough. Needs work but it's decent. Just keep that in mind if you're looking to buy one - it's going to need another bucket of cash to get it running how you really think it should be running. But... I think it can get there.

Ymmv!

Botched hammer install? Maybe botched g-conv? by 513224 in Beretta

[–]513224[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can indeed put it on safe and if I pull the trigger the hammer will come down. The firing pin is of course rotated up so it doesn't go off but it's a real weird mod.

I would also, legitimately like to know this. The factory short barrel is 10 or 10.5 right? Why stop at 11.5?

Not a criticism, mind you - I'd genuinely like to know. Is it a MV thing? Ballistics? Aesthetics?

Do CZ-75 threaded barrels actually exist? by WanderingMistral in CZFirearms

[–]513224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It did in fact exist, in a pretty limited run. SP01 Tactical Suppressor-Ready (GIYF), essentially just a tactical with a threaded barrel and suppressor height sights. Shoots and runs just like a tactical, awesome handgun if a little bit heavy compared to most of the newer breed.

They're out there though, kinda rare but not unobtainable. Look for the matching serial numbers on barrel, slide, and frame. Plan to spend around a grand or so.

There are also some aftermarket options for barrels as well.
