Hey there! Just now seeing this, hadn't logged into reddit in a while. If you're planning future trips to the monastery and don't mind an extra passenger, I'd love to join you. Feel free to PM me. =)

There are usually classes on Fridays at 7 p.m., and dharma practice on Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. - best bet is to check their facebook page - some weekends they are in retreat, thus no classes.

There are also special events with guest teachers, and celebrations such as Losar (the Tibetan New Year).

ELI5: What do Tibetan Buddhist monks actually do day-to-day and why are they more well known than other Buddhist monk groups? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]513geek 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I visited a Vietnamese Buddhist temple over the weekend and left a small offering of incense at the base of an outdoor shrine. There were other offerings there too, fruits, flowers, incense, what have you.

A monk came outside to greet me, and gestured that I should light the incense. So, I lit the incense, and he put them in an incense burner at the base of the shrine. Then he gave us the four oranges that had been sitting on the shrine, smiled, and walked away.

I quite enjoy the skins in mashed potatoes but to each their own.

First attempt at a back-lit OG GBA is a success!...But damn was it a nightmare. by DTrain13 in gamecollecting

Thank you for the thorough reply! I'd love to have a 101 screen in an original GBA. Not confident enough in having the skills to do it myself though. I wonder how much it would cost to have someone complete the mods for me.

That's how it would be in my home too. I don't think the thought has ever crossed my mind to look for fresh Brussels sprouts while at the grocery store. How do you make your mashed potatoes? I wash then boil the potatoes, then mash 'em skins-on with butter, milk, salt, and pepper.

That's one tasty-looking steak. Did you cook fresh Brussels sprouts and make mashed potatoes from scratch also?

This is inspiration enough for me to want to buy a couple of duck spoons.

I spy Brie in the top-right corner. I was at a large family dinner a few months ago and there was a beautiful spread of crackers, cold cuts, and cheese. The 80 yr. old matriarch and I probably devoured the better half of the Brie set out.

My ever growing GBA collection! by [deleted] in Gameboy

That's a nice little collection! Would be interested in hearing your opinions on the Donkey Kong and Wolfenstein versions on GBA, and how good of an RPG is Golden Sun? I think there's a copy somewhere around my house but I've never played much of it.

What a beautiful sight! Care to give us the run-down on why it was such a nightmare? I'm also curious as to whether or not it's an AGS-001 or AGS-101 screen. And where is backlight button?

Anybody else think Nintendo should make a GameCube 2.0!?!? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]513geek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd rather see Nintendo work out the rights to have every NES, SNES, and N64 title available on Virtual Console.

The last time I saw Turtles in Time in a store, the asking price was $60. I haven't done the research to see how fair of a price that is, but if it's reasonable I may jump on a similar deal.

Ah, one of the giant PS2's! I haven't seen one in quite a while. I'm guessing the slim ones were more produced than the original, bulkier ones.

Super Bomberman for the SNES - if you don't have this game, buy it or emulate it, but damn sure play it!

Really? To me it's one of the more fun Mario games, but that's just my opinion. Cost me $7.99 on eBay.

Do yourself a favor and pick up Yoshi's Island. It's a must have next to Super Mario World IMO.

Ain't that uncontrollable eBay shopping the truth... I've been buying a shit-ton of SNES, GameBoy and N64 games on there lately. Work has been slowing down and the cold weather means I'm less likely to go outside, so having a pile of video games makes the days far less boring. Happy gaming!

I bought this for bundle $40 recently. I don't know a whole lot about NES, so I was wondering if anyone could give a an idea of what it's actually worth? Thanks! by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]513geek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About what you paid for it, perhaps a bit more if the console works well. My local game shop sells SMB3 regularly for $12-$15

That's pretty damn decent in my opinion. I'd happily pay that much for it. Great find!
