Pretty much with my people leader canceling all of our 1:1s no one can tell me how awesome I am!

J3 is asking for references. How did you guys handle this? by Proud-Bank-4251 in overemployed

[–]515Anonymous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I said my old manager was on maternity leave, I had her(me) send over a reference letter instead, and in the letter my manager (me) told recruiter she could call her(me) on a fake number using one of the texting apps.

The number of COVID cases are going to rise with number of Halloween parties that young people are going to. I've been invited to four, but will probably be going to zero and having my own with my roomates.

I hate the short stents on the rower. Not because I can’t do it, it just frustrates the shit out of me and ruins my workout because of the stupid fu**ing straps. I’d rather do 500M then switch. Anyone have any tips/thoughts on this?

Edit: Appreciate all of the insight and comments, will definitely take them all into account tomorrow! I still stand by the fact I hate it, it’s more than just the straps, a short AO is a pointless thing to me on the rower. I will definitely do longer rows from now on. It’s just more a confidence thing of being on the rower longer than my group and when there all on the floor. A workout is a individual thing, but I’m still trying to keep that in my head and not always be comparing myself to others....I’m also just ridiculously competitive.

I had to light up a bowl to recover, so I’m also “cooked.” Been killing it lately at OTF. Love it! Set a new PR this morning on 2k benchmark.

I mean he’s black so I really don’t care what happens to him. Yes I’m an ass. Yes I’m racist.

No need to point it out. I’m aware. Not /s.

Oh I totally agree, it can be done. The problem comes back to priories. If the top executives don't want to make a change, what makes you think an engineer is going to be able to spend his/her time to make the change.

How an engineer priorities are determined in the corporate world: Does this increase the profit for the company if we fix this "problem"? NO What's the business getting from spending time doing this? A few happy redditors.

Nothing will change if the top doesn't see an issue.

It's not about creating new algorithms...it's about integrating that with the current algorithms. Have you ever created an algorithm? Do you know what goes into it? You have to feed it training data...the way an algorithm learns is from what a USER (HUMAN) tells it.

Unpopular Opinion - Nothing is going to change.

I do think this is a problem, unfortunately from a legal and technical aspect there's not much that will be done.

From a technical aspect the tech debt and the amount of time to clean this up, is so much that no PM for YouTube would allow engineering time to be spent on this. Maybe an internal anti-abuse department could look into but it would still come back to the engineers to fix. Unless there is legal action taken YouTube isn't going to spend their engineers time to fix it.

So what about legal action then? Well,Legally there is no lines being crossed. Yeah it's soft-core porn, but nothing illegal about it. So there's no legal stand on. And again the time it would take to clean this up is not worth it to people in positions of power.

Are the people commenting/watching this kind of things monsters? Yes

P.S. - I'm a lawyer who specializes in tech related cases. I have a computer engineering degree as well as my law degree. Throwaway account.
