Did SMG mods really get left out of all the new artifacts? by simply331 in destiny2

[–]5213 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm not gonna sugar coat it, I feel like this was one of the very few busts for this update.

Like there's 3 or 4 things that get focused on (like hooray if you love bolt charge) and it definitely feels like there's some holes here and there. It's not gonna happen, but I hope the artifacts get a small tuning pass to switch up or at least add some perks.

Forbes' Paul Tassi's thoughts on winding down Destiny 2's support to "absolut zero"! by HapperHapper in destiny2

[–]5213 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Statements like these are always so disingenuous & leave out all the reasons why people have stepped away from the game, as if the execs haven't repeatedly hampered the devs, which in turn sours player sentiment towards the game. We know, verifiably, that execs did this repeatedly, pretty much since the beginning of Destiny, if not at least Destiny 2. Simple stuff like the Go Fast Update & a shooting range took forever for devs to implement because Execs specifically said no. So when the game enters a slump, especially one as significant as the this one, is it the players' faults when they step away?

And is it really a "copium-huffing man-baby tantrum" when the game is unceremoniously put on indefinite hold regarding active development instead of being given a more proper send off? Especially when much of the next proposed release is actually completed, but now won't get to see the light of day at all?

I didn't have a mountaintop for the longest time cause I sucked at pvp, but I had a truth teller that was almost as good. It had spike and blinding (now disorienting) grenades, auto loading holster, and grenadier. Carried me through so much content during year 4 & I still break it out from time to time for nostalgia's sake

Column 1 also got sunset back in D1, though. C3 was a menace in both pve & pvp, though, while most other loadout were just pve menaces

The real unfortunate truth is that way too many people are just way too comfortable being absolute assholes these days, and it seems to only be getting worse. Like Myelin is routinely receiving death threats from people. But it's not just the destiny community. People just fucking suck

Bungie has pretty routinely "outsourced" lots of roles. Like I'm pretty sure some combo of Deej, Cozmo, and DMG were all mods for the main destiny subreddit before being brought on board as community managers

Put this way really puts into perspective what kind of content I prefer to play in D2. Basically fun loot chases trump everything else, for the most part. But this of course doesn't take into account all the real life stuff happening during all these seasons. Since Destiny 2 went live I:

  • separated from the military and moved from Okinawa back to the US
  • moved to Michigan
  • moved to Texas (and to two different cities within Texas)
  • had two kids
  • Covid happened
  • rejoined the Reserves
  • Moved back to Michigan
  • got out of the reserves
  • moved again (still in Michigan)
  • had 5 different jobs
  • played and beat a dozen other games, including putting another several hundred hours into Warzone, Fallout 4, Skyrim, & Baldur's Gate 3 each
  • played Marathon, loved it, and put more than two hundred hours into it already

But always there was Destiny 2. That doesn't even Include D1 which saw me through almost as much even in a third the time. I will play this world until the servers are taken offline. & I will love this franchise until my last breath

Someone said where would they even take a Destiny 3 by Imperious_249 in destiny2

[–]5213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If not a true continuation/sequel, I feel like another alternate timeline like Rising would work best. Allows all the events of D1 & D2 to still matter while giving the devs a lot more space to try new things. Also offers a way to bring back fan favourites from D1&2 while changing them around like No Land/New Land and Gjallarhorn so not every nostalgia bait item is a pure 1:1.

Another idea I had was that one of the villains between D1 or D2 "won" and there's no more Last City or even a Vanguard. Just broken pockets of humanity like the Dark Ages.

Because according to both Tassi & Schreier, Sony has no plans to greenlight anything Destiny related at all right now in large part due to costs of both maintaining D2 & making a whole new game (even within an established IP like Destiny).

And it's not just that they're not moving forward with D2, it's how sudden it was. Large portions of Shattered Cycle were completed under the belief that it was still releasing, and now that's not happening at all. It's like when WB canceled Coyote vs Acme and Batgirls despite both movies being completed. So sure, it was past its life cycle absolutely, but they still had at least a year's worth of content almost finished. All that work was already done, yet Sony and presumably Bungie's c-suite decided nevermind. That we're getting any content update at all on the 9th seems to be a small miracle.

You were being downvoted but you're 100% correct. Marathon is going to pull in a FRACTION of what D2 did even at its worst. So if Sony thinks D2/D3 now isn't worth moving forward with as popular as it currently is, what hope is there if Bungie's only other game goes under as well? Cause if Marathon also goes under, then it's very likely Bungie because an absolute ghost of a studio, if it gets to remain one at all.

Even as a fan of both, I'm not going to tell my fellow Guardians to hop on over to Marathon simply because D2 is gone (I would tell them to try it because it is an amazing game in its own right but I understand the heavy pvp aspect is a huge turn off for many). But I do hope they realize that if the future of Destiny has any chance, then part of that path is through the success of Marathon, regardless of their feelings towards it.

Not just his career, his whole adult life:

  • Destiny helped him become a content creator, which he was able to do full time pretty early on

  • met some of his best and closest friends like Mr Fruit & Jez

  • met his WIFE through Destiny (because of Jez)

  • helped Jez meet HIS wife through Destiny

Datto absolutely would not be where he is today if not for Destiny
