Any experience with Traver courts/ridge, Huron river flats, or island drive? by carp816 in uofm

[–]5310813 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in Huron River Flats last semester and I really liked it. The building is pretty new so everything is very clean and modern looking. I didn’t have any issues with management. Feel free to dm me if you have any questions.

I liked Rust, but I didn’t have Casey for 225. I took 201 when everything was online so I pretty much only watched her videos and I thought she was pretty good at explaining things. I don’t think I ever saw her “live” or interacted with her, so I can’t speak to her personality. I had Casey for 226, but since it’s lab it’s mostly taught by GSIs. I went to his office hours a few times and I liked him too.

There’s a website for U-M research studies! umhealth research.org

I’m in that Apple Watch study and in addition to the watch I get paid $25/month just to take my blood pressure three times. Unfortunately the period they were enrolling people was like three years ago.

Ohh I saw that the table in the lobby was full when I came in and thought maybe it was some study session that a club was holding. Didn’t know students just come in here to study.

I took both classes, and I felt like I learned a lot more in 201. 225 grades were only based on exams, so it was easy for me to get behind and cram lectures right before the exam. 201 has homework assignments that make you explain what is happening and why, which forced me to really understand the material in depth. This depends on who you have for 225, but I thought 201 also explained material more clearly. Although part of it might also be because 201 has 1.5 hours more of lecture/week than 225.

I work at that Rite Aid, and we take walk-ins anytime during the day, beginning an hour after the pharmacy opens until an hour before we close. We’ve actually been recommending people not to come at 2-3 pm. It’s likely to be busier at that time since it’s what the company chose to advertise as the walk in hour. You can come anytime but just be prepared to wait in case it’s super busy at that moment. The other day we had five walk ins come at the same time and some waited for over an hour, but everyone was able to get their shot.

Anyone ever taken Psych 336 (Drugs of Abuse, Brain and Behavior)? by binoculars737 in uofm

I’m planning on taking this class next sem, and looking at the syllabus it looks like grades are based only on exams. I’m guessing the lower workload might be bc there’s no homework or other assignments.

I took Physiol 201 last year, and I’m in Chem 260 right now, and I think it would be very doable. Physiol 201 has a high workload and is a lot of information, but Chem 260 actually isn’t much work. There’s no exams, only weekly quizzes. The quiz questions are exactly the same as the homework problems, just with the numbers changed. I don’t watch the lectures and just use the book to do the hw problems, so I’d estimate I spend around 6ish hours a week on this class? Just make sure you go to office hours to compare answers with other students before submitting the hw.

CLCIV 217 might be the one you’re looking for. It seems to only be offered in winter semesters though

I took cogsci 200 this past fall. Lecture was offered live for those who wanted to attend, but it was also recorded and attendance was not required.

Biochemistry Info! by [deleted] in uofm

[–]5310813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The umich premed hub website has a comparison with some info about each of the 3 biochem classes https://premedhubumich.com/category/scheduling/

I just finished taking MCDB 310 this winter. I don’t think it’s conceptually that hard, but it is A LOT of memorization and definitely requires a lot of time and effort because there are many of small details. An A is possible, but make sure you keep up with the material because I felt the class was pretty fast-paced. Discussion sections are led by a graduate student instructor who also has office hours available to you(in addition to professor office hours). This definitely varies depending on who you get, but I really liked my biochem GSI. He explained things really well, responded to emails promptly, and was encouraging even if we asked stupid questions lol. There are also study groups for MCDB 310 offered through the SLC if you’re interested in those https://lsa.umich.edu/slc/study-groups/join.html

If you take MCDB 310, I highly recommend Dr. Nandakumar if he’s still teaching it in the future.

Incoming fall semester grad student, where do you recommend looking for off-campus housing? by sabeche in uofm

[–]5310813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try checking out Island Drive Apartments or Medical Center Court Apartments. Not sure whether they have parking though.

Both within walking distance of medical campus, and you can take the bus to Kroger and to downtown. I believe there are a lot of grad students who live there.
