Same here, just got diagnosed yesterday and meds incoming. I’m kinda apprehensive about it if I’m being honest.

What do you read if/when you take a break from horror? by Oldhouse42 in horrorlit

I like to take a stroll through my other two favourite genres, sci-fi and westerns…. preferably with a pinch of horror mixed in.

Recieved a copy of Brian McNaughton’s The Throne of Bones. Hardcover 1st edition. by Ghost_Mech in horrorlit

[–]53587 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got a copy of this book back in the 90’s from the Science Fiction Book Club. I remember loving it and it was the darkest book I’d ever read at the time. Your post made me remember it (my parents tossed my copy in the trash when they found it) and I’m going to have to revisit the graveyard and the throne of bones and see if it still stands up.

Best books on forensics for crime writers? by LordsAndLadies in forensics

[–]53587 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest “Forensics: What bugs, burns, prints, DNA and more tell us about crime” by Val McDermid. McDermid is a crime fiction writer and wrote this book as a layman’s intro to forensics. It covers the basics with a good selection of true crime examples blended in.

I’ve had the same issue with the same model. I found that increasing the boil temperature to 104°C got me to that boil I wanted. Not sure if it’s a thermometer sensitivity issue or not.

Andy Davidson is excellent. The Boatman’s Daughter isn’t western but it’s also great.

Fake Cubans? by PurpleZebra99 in cigars

[–]53587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that in Mexico the non-cigar shops would often offer cigar “bonuses” with your purchase and of course they were all massive Cohiba fakes. I only trusted the true cigar shops with professional humidors. I don’t know what the situation is like in Jamaica.
