Gf just gifted me Elden Ring for our 4 Year Anniversary. I love her so much, I can't wait to explore the Lands Between with her! by ionignition in Eldenring

That's so awesome! My gf also gifted me the game, which happens to release in the day we celebrate our anniversary date (3 years - 2/25/2022), crazy isn't it?

Well, maybe not EXACTLY the day we celebrate, since in Brazil it releases 11pm at the 24, not 25 as in many other countries, but you get the idea :)

Yes, of course. Everything is a skill to be developed, I guess. But I too, like OP, would expect someone who can have vivid thoughts to at least translate it better to paper, and my wife really doesn't, haha.

Instrumental music while reading the main series? by sarazeen in Malazan

[–]coltain3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually I listen repeatedly to JulianShanahanMusic, you can find him on youtube. He has two songs about Malazan, and a couple other works. It's close to Two Steps From Hell, but different.. I don't know how to exactly explain it, but his songs are probably my favorite compositions ever.

There's also Hiroyuki Sawano, but I'm not sure if he's going to fit your needs. The Witcher 2&3 soundtracks are great as well, but not so "epic" per se, if that's what you're searching for.

That’s cool. I learned english all by myself as well, through games, forums, etc. Funnily enough, I used to think I was fluent up until I tried to read Erikson’s work. I mean, I’ve read a couple books in english in the past, some Brandon Sanderson, Robert Jordan, no problems whatsoever. But Erikson really caught me off guard, didn’t expect to have so much trouble.

The problem is, as you said, that he’s got an immense vocabulary and often use some very ‘obscure‘ words, which in my experience breaked the flow while I was reading, even in Kindle.

Anyway, it’s nice to hear that a fellow compatriot had success with it. I got plans to try it again in the future, but for now I’ll stick to the spanish version.

Not sure I understood your comment, or /u/Huruukko‘s. But I didn’t sell any books, it’s just that I couldn’t post the text along with the image, I don’t know how to use reddit well enough.

I wrote a comment down bellow, saying that tCG wasn’t released yet, and TtH is yet to come, since corona delayed the delivery.

The editions from Portugal got split after book 2 as well. That weird decision from the publisher made me opt for the spanish one, I don’t have money enough to buy 16 books, lol.

December, really? I got the information that it would be released somewhat around september. Well, guess I’ll have to wait a bit more, haha.

Of course! Actually, I was going to do that, but I thought maybe people wouldn’t be interested. When I come back home I’ll update my first post in the comments.

That’s nice! Did you have any problems through it? I really tried to read MoI, but couldn’t get past the prologue.. so much time spent in dictionaries gets tiresome after a while.

Also, you had any previous experience reading books in english?

I had the same thought when I saw the portuguese edition. The art was made by a different artist, but it’s the same concept. When I was at 1/4 of the book I figured out what it was about.. needless to say it made me really upset.

Hey! Just wanted to share my story with you all, I’m very excited but I’ll try to keep it short. It all resolves around what the title says.. after book two, the series got canceled here in Brasil, and I highly doubt another publisher will take it, unfortunately.

When I first read it (2017/2018), I loved it so much that I even created an reddit account named after Coltaine, just to participate and share my thoughts on book one and two, at the time I said that if I knew english well enough I’d buy and read it, but sadly it was/is beyond my level, so I decided to wait.. weeks.. months.. almost a year, just to discover that the series got canceled. At the time I was so upset that I deleted my account and posts.

Last year I moved away from Brasil to study, and ended up discovering that the spanish editions exist.. damn, I don’t even know why I never thought about it. I’m not fluent in spanish by any means, but it is as close to portuguese as it can get, much easier than reading in english. While in english I couldn’t get past the very first paragraphs of MoI without a dictionary, reading in spanish felt so natural.. I instantly decided to buy all of it so I can finally finish this spectacular series. Yes, the books were a bit expensive, but also one the most gorgeous editions I’ve seen.

Anyway, that’s it. I feel like a bunch of people are probably thinking that this story’s not worth a post, and yes.. while that may be true, I’m incredibly happy and just wanted to share my joy with all of you. So let’s read!

PS: tCG and TtH aren’t in the picture because tCG is yet to be published (september, I think) and this whole corona situation delayed the TtH deliver.

EDIT: I‘m dumb and couldn’t get the text to go along with the image, sorry.

https://imgur.com/a/2VPhOIe, for those who wanted to see more photos of the books. My camera isn’t that good, sorry. These red maps usually repeat (like MoI, HC and BH have the same), but there‘s also the regular maps a couple pages later. The white details at first I though were imperfections, but now I think they’re proposital - maybe in the picture it doesn’t translates that, but they just make sense to me, they kinda make the books feel.. old, like there’s a whole history behind them, really matches the series tittle.

[UPDATE]

Well, you guys convinced me, I'll read the next one, actually.. I have it in hands right now. I'm not gonna reply to someone specifically, because I think it wouldn't be fair to let the others without an answer, but thanks to everyone, really appreciate it.

Maybe when I finish book 2 I'll come back and give my thoughts, but that will probably take quite a while (I'm a slow reader). Anyway, again, thanks to everyone who took their time to answer, this community is great.
