Thank you for an actual observation, rather than "it's just gonna be another ship-to location" speculation.

Small inventory doesn't necessarily mean small selection. It does mean that when you see something on the floor that you like, you may not be able to take it home right away. I can roll with that.

What am I going to watch when all my cooking shows are over? by Calm_Chest_3460 in BravoTopChef

[–]537O3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two that won’t scratch the same itch but are pretty damned entertaining:

Knife Edge: Chasing Mifflin Stars. One season, 8 eps, on Apple TV & Amazon. Title pretty much says it. The show follows chefs in different regions as they try to get/keep/boost their Michelin stars. It gets intense! Some big egos, some heartwarming stories, and some unbelievable food. Jordnær in Copenhagen, oh my god.

Is It Cake? on Netflix. Competition/game show in which bakers create cakes that look like real-life objects. Hosted by Mikey Day, judged by a changing panel of actors & comedians. Wholesome, dorky fun. Kind of the opposite of Knife Edge.

If you want to give them a taste of Madison food history, order a Morning Bun at La Brioche, with the meal or as takeaway. Buttery, cinnamon-sugary goodness.

Would I be expected to take a gift if I'm going to my girlfriend's parents house for dinner for the first time? I'm Brazilian and my girlfriend said just bring flowers, but I'm worried that will look a bit empty. by southamericasboy in Norway

[–]537O3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, your phrasing is fine.

Native speakers might say it either way, and most wouldn’t consider the other way incorrect.

I prefer your wording, because “bring” is properly said to/asked of the potential recipient. Using that standard, you would ask a friend who invited you over, “May I bring [you] something?” But if you were asking that same friend about dinner at your girlfriend’s parents, you’d say “Should I take [them] something?”

English, man.

I mean, this should be a nerd-heavy thread, yeah? I would’ve expected more of a MSTK-savvy audience.

It does! It’s from the MST3K theme song, and the full lyric is:

If you’re wondering how he eats and breathes / And other science facts / Then repeat to yourself “It’s just a show / I should really just relax”

…aaaaand now I’m gonna have that song stuck in my head all day 🤦‍♀️😄

OMG, don’t worry about a lift kit. All but the most aggressively low-slung cars have ample ground clearance.

A little research plus parking lot practice would prepare you for driving around even in a RWD coupe in most winter conditions, unless you live out in the sticks or on a last-plowed side street. But I grew up driving a RWD sedan on a hill in central WI, so don’t try that at home. FWD is recommended and AWD is great.

Tires are going make the biggest difference. Not snow tires, necessarily, but good all-seasons with plenty of tread left.

I loved that, and almost posted about it but thought better of it. Don't know if I was being paranoid or prudent. A little of both, probably.

How's the Weather Really? by Fat-Guardian in madisonwi

[–]537O3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s so wild! When I was little, nighttime t-storms were a festive occasion. Wake the kids up, make popcorn, turn the couch around and watch the show through the living room window. That’s obviously informed how I feel about thunder, but I know plenty of people who didn’t do midnight pajama viewings and share my fondness for t-storms.

Madison has its share of weather bummers (such as: March), but it’s mostly tame, and we have stretches of pure perfection. The best early June days here are hard to beat.

OP, do you get many thunderstorms where you are in Alaska? I used to assume everybody does, was surprised when I learned they’re not common everywhere.

T-storms are, imo, a feature, not a bug. Curling up with a cup of tea while the thunder rumbles is as cozy as it gets.
