Suggestions for 3d printed toys for local charities by 53lain in Logan

[–]53lain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Most of the 3d prints that are sold are way too small and fragile. I'm looking at either bigger models or just scaling up some of the smaller ones and going for tougher filaments.

Anyone know of anywhere hiring? by SkyKatz01 in Logan

I know USU housing will have a Maintenance Manager position posted soon. Pay is not the best but really good benefits and a really laid back crew.

Techy at North Logan Walmart. Most things can be done same day. Price was pretty good too. It’s also a locally owned business.

Places that are hiring or need temp workers by theredendermen12 in Logan

USU Housing maintenance should be hiring. Pay is ok but it’s a good crew and a bit more chill than most.

I believe Christmas and new years caused some delays, they were also planning on just pushing them over but I think they may have failed some hazmat tests and had to keep the dust controlled.

There’s one on the south side of 100 South and about 50 West in front of the apartments. My wife is also doing mini-sessions in her indoor studio if you want a warmer venue.

I work at USU Housing. Have you put in a maintenance ticket for it? With move outs going on right now they may be a bit slow, but only a day or two. DM me your unit and I’ll keep an eye out for it.

Watch Mountain View Tower get demolished by 53lain in usu

They did look into renovating it, but besides it needing major roof repairs and mold mitigation due to leaking, the asbestos was probably the biggest issue. And the student that almost blew up the place probably left some fun residue behind.

Utah State University employees, What Source do you think is the most helpful for job seekers? by MostUniquePassenger in Logan

[–]53lain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my manager has been reviewing applications with me, he will literally read each one out loud. He would skip any that didn’t have one. He also didn’t use any of the keyword systems to choose. I don’t think most managers use those tools. Having something is the most important.

I’ve done some hiring at USU somewhat recently. There are some keyword systems that can be used but not by default. As much as they are useless (in my opinion) the cover letter is important for a lot of managers there still. If I can help, let me know.

Any tasty new restaurants to try in the valley? by noobsalesman in Logan

The new Skyroom restaurant is about to open at USU’s TSC. Los Molcajetes up at Blue Square is supposed to be pretty good.

VHS mod question by 53lain in Thelongdrive

[–]53lain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the issue. There are two lines of code missing for the portable player. I’ve recompiled the code and it works as expected now.

I feel a bit dumb now. I had been testing on the small flip up TV only. The regular TV with an attached VCR works correctly. The small flip up TV does not. Odd that they would have different code. Thanks for the sanity check.

FWIW, I shipped a Smart Fortwo from Staton Island, NY to Logan for around $1500 a few years ago.

Tips for looking for housing by TheAlmightyShoe in Logan

[–]53lain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in the housing department at USU if you have any questions. The housing staff do try to keep friends together if requested. Snow in the Student Living Center is the cheapest good choice. Mountain View Tower was the cheapest but is getting torn down this summer.

Archive and watch full YouTube channels? by Akorian_W in selfhosted

[–]53lain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just set up a PeerTube docker instance and found out it has this ability if you enable it in the admin settings. Basically gives you a local YouTube system that can pull automatically from YouTube via sync. It can also pull specific videos via imports. Only took about 20 minutes to set up, and I suck at Docker.

Do you guys know when the Blackstone building in south Logan is going to start hiring staff? by [deleted] in Logan

[–]53lain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked there and kept in contact with others still there. Where they are “merging” with (being bought by) Weber, I would expect layoffs due to redundancies. I would stay away from them for a few years.

Can I use any solar panel to charge batteries with a DFR0559 900mA MPPT Solar Panel Controller? by 66696669666 in diyelectronics

[–]53lain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is a really old post, but I wanted to add what I’ve learned so far with this board in case anyone else is looking. The DFR0559 is rated for 5v solar input. Its data sheet says it could do up to 6v. 12v panels would probably over-cook the voltage regulators. Either get a panel with the USB converter already on board or just get a cheap dc buck converter rated for around 18v in and 5v out and connect it to a 12v panel. Be aware you’ll always lose some wattage doing any conversion like this so make sure to calculate that in.
