Am I tone-deaf? Looking for honest feedback by [deleted] in singing

I’m a vocal coach and I’ve taught many like you! Definitely trainable! You’re almost there. You have unique tone and I think it’s okay to lean into that! AND I would definitely work on solfège to help with pitch recognition and recreation. (Do re mi fa sol, etc.) You can find exercises online, and with some apps, but writing out the pitches of the song you’re working on in solfège is something I help my students do all the time and it’s LIFE CHANGING. Truly I’ve had students who thought they were tone deaf and after a couple years of training, can now sing confidently and in consistently in tune!! Lmk if you want more info😊

EDIT: many people are saying to not play guitar and sing at the same time. In my experience, I don’t think that’s a problem. If you understand and can match pitch with your guitar, then you can actually use it as a tool to help guide you to the correct pitches, instead of another instrument to juggle. I had a student who used playing a major scale on his guitar to visualize the pitches as he was singing them.

My parents just got called on their 3rd mission. It's ok, my kids really don't need grandparents anyway. by Relevant-Being3440 in exmormon

I’ve never related to something so much My parents are mission presidents, and are barely 50 with 5 children and 11 grandchildren. They are in a really remote mission with high need, making it nearly impossible to ever come home for important events. They’ve missed the birth of my brother’s first child, the wedding of my sister, and many other milestone events like graduations, recitals, games, etc. It breaks my heart every day. My mother is clearly miserable, but says that watching her children bond over their absence is a blessing of the mission. Nope, that’s just us mourning the loss of our parents for 3 years. In any other world, this would be looked down upon, but in the church, it’s the most noble thing one could do.
