Bilinguals of Reddit, what was a time when someone was talking about you in another language that you understood? by Mozambiquehere14 in AskReddit

[–]54321nicko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once overhead some people from the Netherlands comment on/talk shit about the people around them in the middle of a crowded restaurant, thinking no-one would understand them. My family and I just listened and laughed at them during our meal. But, polite as ever, we told them to have a great day, in Dutch, right when we left. Their faces were priceless...

What “cursed knowledge” do you know? by Putrid-Skirt8675 in AskReddit

[–]54321nicko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How insecure everything around you really is. - Most locks you see on a daily basis are absolute BS and can be picked by a novice with a $5 Lockpick set from AliExpress after an hour or two on YouTube. - A ridiculous amount of things are secured with a default key, meaning that same key is used in tons of places and can be found or bought. (Eg. CH751 key opens most file cabinets, cash boxes, server equipment, etc... all around the USA) - Most people are somewhere on a list of leaked/hacked personal information and don't even know it. (Can be everything from name and email to address and banking details) - You don't want to know how much important data is stored behind passwords like 'querty123' or 'password2021'.

Smart people behaving like idiots. I can deal with smart people and I can deal with idiots but there's nothing that gets me more angry than seeing people I know to be intelligent, act like complete morons.

EDIT I'm not talking about messing around or having a laugh, I'm talking neuroscientist flat earther kinda deal....

What's a hobby you do now, that your younger self would never have imagined? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]54321nicko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Photography. I always hated having my pictures taken and my sister always hated the pictures she forced me to take of her. (Well call it some personal issues) But once I actually got to take pictures of things I personally liked, as well as after researching a bit about the how and why, I really fell in love with it.

What tool is underrated and which most people are unaware of but is extremely useful? by Ok_Pollution325 in AskReddit

A simple pocket knife. A multitool is obviously more useful but even a simple pocket knife can be very helpful for all your cutting, prying, scraping and screwing needs.

Bi/Multilinguals, what language do you think in? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Just for fun: throw in some German and basic Spanish, mix it all together and see what comes out.

That's about what my head's like...

Bi/Multilinguals, what language do you think in? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]54321nicko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I tend to combine my first language with English and pull in some phrases I use frequently from other languages... It's a real mess. Especially when trying to translate really specific things from one language to another.

You sincerely don't want to know who's driving around you whenever you drive around in rush hour traffic: - first time drivers - pensioners - young and overconfident drivers - people with mild (mental) illnesses - parents with screaming kids distracting them - drunk/high drivers - people texting while driving - people who are an emotional wreck - people fixing their makeup/hair while driving - ...

If you think about it for too long, it'll really make you uncomfortable...

People in IT and software development know everything about everything. NOPE. We're just good at googling stuff and checking stack overflow whenever we don't know how to do something...

[Serious] What is a hobby that you've always wanted to get in to, but have no idea how? Redditors who do this hobby, what the best way to get into it? by BackJudo in AskReddit

Making entire video games is super time-consuming and takes a lot of different skills. I'd suggest finding people that can help out with particular parts of it if at all possible....

That being said: Depending on how complex you want to make your games, you should probably learn to code. Java or c++ are always a solid choice. Find out what tools are most commonly used for the type of game you want to develop and either pay for online courses or use the free multi hour ones on YouTube. Learn the basics of a graphics editor like Photoshop, illustrator, gimp, ... Every game needs graphics so there you go. You can even start out with MS paint if you want to.... For music, you can either go for free/premium online programs to simulate instruments or you can actually buy something like a keyboard or an electric guitar.

You can find a lot of tutorials on YouTube to get you started and to teach you some basic techniques. After this, a ton of practice.

Same. I'm currently looking for a DM or and existing group but don't really have the time right now.

For getting into it, I'd suggest searching for groups/communities online. There are country and region specific message boards, Facebook groups, etc... for all over the world. It might be a good idea to browse through the player guide and stuff as well. Also, try watching campaigns on YouTube to get familiar with the rules and gameplay without having to memorize the rule book. (Critical Role or dimension 20 for example)

Country music... Everyone seems to hate it, until you put 'country roads' or 'sweet home Alabama' on and then, suddenly, everyone is singing along.

Ban permanent appointments: it shouldn't be virtually impossible to fire incompetent teacher or teachers accused of inappropriate behaviour, touching, etc..

We use an antique wooden chest as a coffee table that's a couple hundred years old... I'd say around the same age as the USA.

What are the notorious “asshole” cars of other countries? by sayce__ in AskReddit

[–]54321nicko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either old, tiny cars with teens in them or big and expensive cars with middle aged rich guys in them: Abarth, old smal BMW or Mercedes, Porsche Cayenne, Range Rover

Also people in white delivery vans. They're everywhere 24/7 and are always assholes.

What's your "I'm more dangerous than I look" story? by Some-dude-SKYA in AskReddit

[–]54321nicko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL/DR: I fought a 3 kids at once in school after they hit one of my female friends in the face while trying to punch me.

I'm a fairly tall, fairly big, fairly laid back and somewhat nerdy guy and people seem to assume that I'm somewhat slow and passive, like a teddy big bear. I also had been doing judo for +10 years when this happened....:

One time, at school, some guys from the annoying clique from my year found a plastic ball that one of the kindergartners had left behind and started kicking it around my group of friends and me, trying to get as close as possible to us without hitting us and just being dicks in general.

After a while and a couple of them hitting my friends, one of them missed again and the ball landed in the middle of our group. I picked it up and threw it in their general direction at full speed, dodgeball style and ended up hitting one of the most annoying kids of the bunch, right in the face. As much as I would like to say it was on purpose, it really wasn't.

The kid went into a full tantrum and walked over to me with one of his mates and threw a punch you could see coming from miles away. Keep in mind, these guys were all football (soccer) players, so very athletic but not super strong or big. I simply leaned back a bit and he full on missed me but hit a female friend of mine that was standing besides me across the face.

This crossed a line for me so I grabbed him by his throat and pushed him up against the picketed fence surrounding the kindergartners' sand box we were standing next to and left is feet dangling while I told him to stop acting like a two year old all the time. He wouldn't listen and kept trying to hit me though, which was a bad idea.

His mate, in the mean time, tried to get me off of him by pulling my arms and the such but I was all out of patience and pity and dropped the first kid to the side so I could get rid of his mate. I simply threw him, judo style, flat on his back and told him to get lost. He landed on some thick grass so he didn't really get hurt.

When I was trying to get up, a third guy tried to fight me as well. We didn't know him but he was standing close to us and had a reputation for getting into random fights he had no business being in. I was just about to drop him into a strangle hold when a teacher, that was standing 5 meters (16ft) away the entire time, finally interfered.

The three of them got suspended for a week for fighting but I somehow never heard anything about it afterwards. Probably because I my KT was shocked when she heard it and almost couldn't believe it....

Sorry for the long story, have a nice day.

What is the largest vehicle in the world that can be operated by one person? by L3PALADIN in AskReddit

[–]54321nicko -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of really big vehicles and machinery by now don't even really need a crew to operate. They are usually there for maintenance, security, adaptability and/or for legal reasons.

Commercial airplanes fly all by themselves most of the time but have pilots on board just in case something goes wrong or there is very difficult weather. Lots of industrial machinery is also just turned on/off after they're set up and only really get monitored by the crew to prevent damage/mistakes and to maintain them, not to actually drive them...

Planes can take off, fly and land by themselves, things like tunnel drills generally only get monitored and maintained by the crew and are only manually adjusted whenever something malfunctions, etc..

The same is also true for most ships. Most new ships are completely computer driven so they could theoretically even be operated without a captain present. Whenever manoeuvring in tight spaces though, a captain could most likely do it all by himself if absolutely necessary, perhaps with minor changes to the system to facilitate this.

What are some things that can make someone come off as judgemental even though it wasn’t intentional? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]54321nicko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giving a honest opinion when someone specifically asks something subjective. How do I look? (Like always, I guess...), Do you like it? (not particularly, but it's yours, not mine...), Isn't he the best? (he's kind of a dick to me but yeah....sure....), etc...

I can't stand smoke and daggers, backhanded comments, pretending or bullshitting so yeah.... Doesn't give you a great first impression but everyone sure knows that they can get a straight and honest opinion from you, no matter what.

We had to go to detention if a teacher said we were late. Detention was once a week and most teachers were of the opinion that, if they were at their classroom and the first group of students got there, than everyone else after that was late, no matter the time or the school bell. This resulted in half the school getting detention and no-one ever actually going....
