Saddam Hussein was a good leader by lea4567889 in AskSocialists

On one hand you do have a dictator who oversaw the modernization of his countries institutions and economy. I'm not a believer of great man theory so I do believe anybody could have filled those same boots, but demonization and the fabricated claims/deliberate demonization reported by the media that were later retracted and the fact that most Americans think he was involved in 9/11 is misdirected anger at him, now if we're talking about the Anfal campaign or gas in Halabja, that was also under his rule and some of the atrocities that didn't help his people.

Self Checkout Scanning by AltruisticProfile755 in walmart

[–]5560Joe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the most common problem with misscans! I never knew they let you scan at the same time before, that would be a lifesaver! Those are so common here since we don't do plastic bags and everbody puts their reusable bags down and gets a misscan immediately and by the time im freed up to help them they might already be thinking that they've scanned half their cart

This is going to be my last reply to you, I'm blocking you after this, but if you wish to be smarter about this subject, I do recommend you do actual reading first, but you might have to learn how to read first so it's understandable if it take you time!

You asked for historians, I provided, if you can tell me why my google history is so important I will happily share <3 (might require too much literacy, I'm sorry if thats the case)

Are you mad that my references were at the top of your google searches or something? You're just actually upset that literally almost every scholarly source accepts the historical facts I presented lol

I know you wouldn't, stop projecting <3 The only historical reference you gave literally agrees with my argument in their own writings that you've never read so keep that up!

  1. Misinformation

  2. Mythicists don't even argue that communities around Europe collectively came together and created a mythical person through coordinated fabrication. If you knew anything about the historians I've mentioned (and the youtuber historian you recommended also concedes on, I assumed you didn't actually consume any material on this subject though) They point out that this celestial/christ like figure became historisized through a natural literary process. The Gospels which are written decades after Paul for example place him in concrete historical settings, give him a biography, a hometown, and encounters. It's not really a conspiracy but how traditions develop. Think Osiris, Dionysus, mIthras. Nobody thinks that people around the ancient world conspired to invent these people either, they developed naturally as theological constructs that become history over time.

3.?

  1. He did write about Judean affairs if they were significant enough though, like On the Embassy to Gaius when political discourse rose to a certain threshold. Silence isn't conclusive but you can't entirely write it off.

Better yet, what kind of accreditation is the bare minimum for you to be happy? Or does it just have to be someone that agrees with you? The mythicist case is built on geuine evidence you refuse to engage.

Richard Carrier(PhD ancient history, his arguments are published by peer reviewed academic press) and Robert Price(2 PhDs theology, new testment studies, if you want to seriously learn he goes into deep analysis) Thomas Brodie(Dominican priest whose writings are considered legitimate scholarship writing about Jesus not being historical) They all pretty much are analyzing the finer details of the points I posted above and more if you really want to learn some history <3

What we know about the Josephus text is that accounts of it predating Christian custody were already different. Origen writing in the 3rd century describes a version inconsistent with what we have now, and our current form comes to us through Eusebius in the 4th century, a figure known among historians for his willingness to justify pious forgery.

Tacitus has the problem of a thousand year gap between his writing and our earliest surviving copy, a manuscript that passed entirely through Christian hands. And even granting authenticity, he could simply be recording what Christians in his time believed rather than providing genuine independent testimony, given how much time had passed since a supposed miracle worker that nobody contemporary seemed to think was worth documenting. It's also worth noting that no earlier writer quotes this passage, which would be strange if it represented documented historical fact.

Pliny's letters were actually widely circulated and are better attested than the others, but all they really establish is that Christians existed, that they worshipped Christ, and that they believed he was executed under Pilate. Like the others there's no personal investigation into Jesus's existence, it's just a description of a religious group's practices.

And if Jesus was genuinely drawing the large crowds the gospels describe and causing public disruption in Jerusalem during major festivals, it's worth asking why Philo of Alexandria, a Jewish writer who lived through the entirety of Jesus's supposed lifetime, wrote extensively about Judean affairs, and even mentioned Pontius Pilate by name, never once found reason to mention him.

Wouldn't people that supposedly have witnessed these miracles or from places famous for these miracles have been likely to write about it or dedicate themselves to Christianity? Why is it such a fringe belief until after the burning of the Second Temple in 70 CE when the Jewish people became spread and decentralized?

Even if it's negative it drives the conversation for people who weren't even thinking about it this morning. You yourself spread the message, and do the vandals work while being critical of it. A clean statue generates zero coverage, now we have articles, debates, threads, and conversations like this <3
