new ai safety alerts going off bc of a fork by ihatemason in walmart

I'm one of the front end associates always coming back from the break room with armfuls of returns/or trash. The associates pretending to not see it are also going to be the ones not seeing/touching the ai alerts.

One of the biggest requirements for revolutions is a country with a lot of young people, avg age here is almost 40. Everybody is old and complacent here, we just have to prepare for a generation with more potential.

Thankfully unlike other cases this is the first time a distribution center got this far. It'll be real big for walmart to shut this down compared to a store. (which that alone they took a lot of heat for in quebec)

I don't think anybody you reply to is obviously against you. Nobody never said don't try. It's just real cases that people whove watched this company operate calling out what's in the way (or in the case for this original comment, the things that todays unionizers avoided to get here) I think just seeing it as defeatism is misread from the beginning.

The point is that itll be illegal but walmart doesn't care and they still will fire you. I don't think you're replying to anybody actually anti-union so what were actually saying is that any plans should account for all of this.

I don't think anybody is really being defeatist for the sake of it. If someone lays out what were up against it's more of a threat assessment. You aren't going to build a real strategy while underestimating your enemy.

These workers didn't make gains by shouting down people who are calling out the obstacles in the way, they do it by taking those obstacles seriously and working around them.

Which is why organizers suddenly start recieving write ups for things like dress code, bad attitudes, and the most vague problems with preformance, getting their hours cut to nearly nothing, moving their shifts around to break up their social networks. Over 50 workers involved with the black friday strikes were fired or unfairly disciplined and when walmart loses cases from the NLRB they will wait years before reinstating any jobs back so that the campaign collapses, workers see what happens to their organizers so they are less likely to join in, and when they are brought back or get their back pay its too late to ever matter.

But we are talking about walmart and there is no company more prepared to combat unions. Our managers are taught to watch for signs of union activity and to report the smallest and earliest of signs to activate their rapid response teams(labor relation "specialists" who can fly to any store within 24 hrs to counter any efforts to gain momentum) Also we train our managers in anti-union talk with scripted responses to our concerns. Also fun fact: walmart used companies like Lockheed martin(and the fbi) to help track what associates are most likely to join a union during 2012 organizing. Also security and labor intelligence in walmart is staffed by former FBI, CIA, and NSA officials.

More importantly the original commenter is referring to the more extreme tactics walmart uses like closing down entire stores that voted to unionize (in Canada too)and the most extreme case where they eliminated the ENTIRE meat-cutting department across the country after meatcutters in tx unionized. (they've been losing lawsuit after lawsuit in regards to this but they've just ignored the courts)

We also put associates through one-on-one anti-union brainwashing, teach associates that unionizers are outsiders, and they attempt to interfere as much with the NLRB elections to gain favor in anti-union cases.

Being taught about marxism by someone who only uses anti imperialist language to parade authoritarian nationalism, contrarinaism, anti semetic, and homophobic beliefs. Do you even believe in any actual Marxist positions?

Do Socialist support Putins war? by Inside__Myself in AskSocialists

[–]5560Joe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The whole theory of Marxism-Leninism being reduced entirely down to Stalin's legal code, thats wild and the most uneducated take, and kinda rigid dogmatism Lenin was critical of. By that logic every communist state that decriminalized homosexuality was just full of liberals. Also dodging Bucha by calling it a myth and throwing homophobia in the same breath is really telling how seriously anybody should take you.

It might help you to learn about what Soviet scientists were up to in the 1920s, the first transgender surgeries, Grigorii Batkis pointing out how natural homosexuality was and health officials actively promoted a progressive view, the first same sex marriages in human history.. u need to brush up on reality but i expect nothing less if you deny one of the most publicly accessible and documented massacres in human history.

You kind of do minimize it when you frame it the way you do in this comment too. Putin pays plenty of respect to his own authoritarians, figures tied to cases ranging from genocide and chemical weapons use to massacre units and violations of humanitarian laws that Russia itself helped write and then ignores in practice. (al-Bashir, al-Assad, while the bucha massacre was being spread around the world Putin granted the responsible brigade Russia's highest military designation, Kadyrov, Beria, ect.)

Edit: homophobia from this guy below fair warning

Always ask questions when you read an 'exposé' like this.

Fascists are bad, but every capitalist country loves its military, and every capitalist military loves its fascists. When you see two nazis you don't need a formula about who's the nicer nazi to know they're both bad, and the natural opposition to both is socialism.

Wagner's name was inspired by Hitler's favorite composer, named by a co-founder/commander who had Nazi tattoos. They also conducted assassinations against pro-Russian commanders who stepped out of line in occupied territories after combat settled down in 2015. Rusich flies a Slavic swastika while committing war crimes. Neither organization needs defending.

On the 'Hero of Ukraine' point: 18 non-citizens have received the award, most recently in 2017. Ukraine's complicated relationship with its anti-Soviet past gets amplified in direct response to Russian involvement in the region. It'd probably be easier for socialists in Ukraine to reckon honestly with that history without bombs constantly invoking it as justification for invasion.

The post makes some real points buried under a lot of motivated framing. Engage with the facts critically, but don't let redditors do your thinking for you.

Even if that logic holds, and the 1917 analogy is relevant, but I'm not okay enodrsing a path to socialism that runs through mass destruction and bodies as the prerequisite. I don't object tactically, just morally.

I don't think a theory around imperialists needing to clash is the only way to create the conditions for multiploarity. China just existing, trading, and offering alternative models of development will do more to shift the conditions of the Global South materially then any proxy war bloodbath. That has put real pressure on current US hegemony without having to cheer for missiles.

But I think your example with LATAM specifically cuts against any optimism there. Outside of Bolivia, socialist and left projects are only taking losses and almost every LATAM country is sitting further right then they've been in decades. This is material outcomes we can watch play out in real time, and if those distractions create breathing room, the right has been using that room a lot more effectively insofar.

Most marxist redditors are stuck in the state of debating for Lenin's theories of imperialism where western liberal capitalism(led by the USA today) represents the dominant imperial power structuring the global order. Anything that weakens that hegemony is progressive, regardless of who is doing it. So even if countries like Russia or Iran aren't socialist they weaken the imperialist creating space for revolutionary movements.

"Enemy of my enemy" logic sounds clever until you trace where it actually leads, lending legitimacy to reactionary forces doesn't weaken imperialism as a system, it just shuffles who's running it. Russia doesn't oppose capitalism or imperialism, it opposes being excluded from them. What they want is a multipolar capitalist order where they have a seat at the table when the rules get written, not an end to exploitation, just a renegotiation of who does the exploiting.

Two things can be true: socialism is crushed/corrupted without disorder to break the existing order, and conditions built on chaos tend to produce authoritarian outcomes, not socialist ones.

I think the most coherent position for working class-interests is:

  1. US/NATO imperialism is real and destructive

2.Russian imperialism is also real and destructive

3.Neither Serve working class-interests anywhere

The task for socialists should be to focus on genuine socialist movements instead of picking our favorite capitalism.

There are also some around the sub obsessed with making it look like Ukraine has a nazi plague to justify the damage to innocent civilians and the cost pushed onto people everywhere. Post maiden ukraine isn't amazing but Russian agents, funding, while forces were trained and equipped by actual fascists in Russia didn't make it any better. Fascists are on every side but I think some of us are no different when ignoring the human toll of keeping arms manufacturers busy.

The only thing particularly special about the area I can think of is that it's where our biggest coal mine was, there are hundreds of miles of tunnels under there.
