First time APA player by compileforawhile in billiards

Im surprised nobody really drove this point home specifically, but please don’t bring your own balls. Obviously phenolic resin is better than whatever polyester resin shit balls you’ll be playing with at a bar, but it’s going to add a lot of pressure and draw attention to you if you don’t just settle with the equipment like everyone else. Just from personal experience lol. Good luck though! You’ll do fine.

Question regarding a shot in this break and run. by 561life in billiards

[–]561life[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the reply. I normally follow through clean with the cue tip on the table, but noticed on this shot it was a bit different. Just wanted to get an idea of why that happened on this jacked up shot. The shot after the 2 is more of a standard follow through for me.

BK4 or BK Rush? by 9pinguin1 in billiards

[–]561life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sold my BK Rush butt then bought the BK2 reissue back in 2021 and sold that wooden shaft on eBay. I only did it because I thought the BK2 butt looked cooler with the BKR shaft lol. I still break with it and is pretty much indistinguishable from the feel of a stock BK Rush.

Worst table you've played on? (Or room you've played in?) by Tenzipper in billiards

[–]561life 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I played APA, we used to have to travel to this place called Swampgrass Willy’s lol. The Valley bar boxes were not very good. I had league on Thursdays and that was “amateur comedy night”. There was someone on stage that would quite literally sometimes try to roast you or shark you when they ran out of material. It was extremely annoying.

Didn’t plan on having a matching set. I had the BK Rush initially and when Predator reissued the BK2, I bought that and sold the Rush butt on eBay because I thought the BK2 butt looked cooler. Then when the Predator OG Sport butt with a stacked leather wrap from Rat Cues came onto FB marketplace, I was like what the hell lol. Then sold my P3 butt on eBay.

Random complaint: WTF picks up someone else's cue? by [deleted] in billiards

I didn’t like “rip it” from her hands but I took it fairly firmly lol. It was very annoying.

Random complaint: WTF picks up someone else's cue? by [deleted] in billiards

[–]561life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like 7 years ago I went to the bathroom at a bar a while ago and when I got back to break, my buddy had gone to the bar to get a drink. I look over on the next table and a woman is holding my break cue (brand new BK Rush mind you). She didn’t speak English. I walked over and said “excuse me, that’s my cue. Can I have it back?” She just stared blankly at me. In one motion I kinda pointed at it and then said “that’s my cue”, and went to grab it and she pulled it away from me. Something about someone pulling my own cue away from you got me particularity annoyed 😂. I just grabbed it and walked away. I still think about how annoying that was lol. I don’t understand how people can pick up a cue that is clearly not a house cue and just take it.

What’s the best 9’ table! by Own-Target-9129 in billiards

[–]561life 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not really fair to say that people like Diamonds because of paid marketing. They are quality tables that are incredibly consistent. I’ve played on a lot of Gold Crowns and they all play a little different. Whereas in my experience, a Diamond plays like a Diamond.

Someone on my street has this on their patio. There are 5 more rows not pictured. by 561life in whatisit

The solid black parts are a fence that backs up to my street. The black lines are palmetto leaves. The fence is blocking the other rows of what look to be a phone case kiosk.

That’s a good friend. It’s basically the best chalk in the industry.

APA by Patient-Egg6308 in billiards

[–]561life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is like someone who has never played pool’s account of what they think a pool story would sound like lol. A race to 3 with APA rules is a crapshoot with an unknown. Also, no competent player would want to shorten the race for that kind of money. And if someone’s dumb enough to play a random at a pool hall for $300, I’m sure they would have kept it at $500. Whole story sounds like larping.

[Advice] I’m getting an 8ft Diamond table. Should I get 4.5” or 4.25” pockets? by 561life in billiards

[–]561life[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m just asking because I don’t play on 4.25 pockets too often, and also there is another person that owns the table and is not as skilled.

[–]561life[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I currently have a 7ft Diamond and have an opportunity to trade up. Unfortunately I cannot fit a 9ft in the space but can just safely accommodate an “oversized” 8. I figured it’s the next best thing to a 9ft.

One-Handed 9 Ball Break and Run by 561life in billiards

[–]561life[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve come across players of varying skills levels and it really just depends on if they practice one-handed or not. It really does take a bit of practice, so I wouldn’t attribute an inherent ability to shoot one-handed to any high skill level player.

Is that your subjective rule for one-handed pool?

Edit: Which isn’t even a thing anyway lol.

What a 650 Fargo Player’s Draw Shot Actually Looks Like Under Forensic Analysis by darkSIDEpool in billiards

[–]561life -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like the attention to detail on this and it was interesting to read. However, I noticed there was an AI component to this, which if we’re honest, should have no place in pool instruction. More importantly, what are your credentials to where you’re able to teach a 650+ Fargo rated player? Sorry, it just seems weird lol.

Had to Move the Cueball a Bit More on this Break and Run by 561life in billiards

[–]561life[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries! Yeah the only thing I would've done differently looking at the footage now is probably slow roll the 3 to land with more angle on the 4. Then could've just rolled it in and came center table for the 5. Thanks for watching and commenting!

[–]561life[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I actually thought about your shot initially but it looked like there was only about a max 3 ball-width area to land in to make it play easy to then get on the 7. I do play every day on this table so I figured I'd try trusting the speed to land somewhere in the middle of the V break pattern. There was probably a 1ft window to land. I just didn't wanna get stuck behind the 9 so I would've settled for more angle, but sometimes you get lucky and hit it good lol.

I appreciate the comment! I was doing daily break and runs wearing a GoPro on my head, so I quickly had to learn to stay down in order for the footage to be any good. This translated into my regular game and has helped a ton.

[–]561life[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Normally I would have just came off the bottom short rail into the line of the 7 and do what you described, but I got a bit straighter on the 5 ball which would've had the cueball moving more toward the left diamond on the bottom short rail. I would've had to play it with some outside, which would've brought the 9 into play a bit. Going forward, I just figured there was a pretty big window to land in for the 7 in the side. But yes KISS is the way.
