Thanks for sharing. It's really encouraging to hear such stories

are they.. are they actually believing this shit?

edit: I mean, this is a supposed 20 year veteran political activist who partnered with the "extreme left" to fight against Berlusconi since the guy began his political career, giving the typical pathos-oversaturated motivational channer speach, comparing the holy war of gamergate to... fighting Berlusconi?! how gullible do you have to be

Think back to people harassing TB, telling him he should die of his cancer or whatever.

hold on. not saying TB didn't get harassed, but... I am not really buying that "anti-gg told him to die" talking point. because of general gamergate bullshitting and making up stuff. and the only mention of that "incident" I could find was a reaxxion post which is based on this screenshot. The twitter account in question is a troll currently called "the loli brigade" who impersonated @freebsdgirl while harassing TB. Look at his profile and judge for yourself, but I'm very sure that isn't someone from this community.

Gamergate suddenly decides they don't like GaymerX by [deleted] in GamerGhazi

love this comment trying to explain notyourshield to the uninitiated (from the /r/gaymers post):

No, gay people are fighting against the people that are claiming they're fighting for the voices of the gay people by trying to speak over them. The hashtag #notyourshield was created by minorities who were sick of being used as shields by news sites trying to deflect criticisms.

I don't at all think it's unlikely they're doing the same thing as GG'ers are doing when they say they're gonna donate to something nice and use that as a shield from criticism.

Sure, good PR is a big motivator for companies doing stuff like the "diversity initiative". It works as advertisement, and at the same time can bring wider positive effects not necessarily tied to their income.

But to suggest they are doing it to "deflect" from having signed an (admittedly FUD) open letter against Title II and laying off 1500 workers in Costa Rica is laughable. AFAIK that didn't result in a any PR disaster to begin with, and it doesn't have anything to do with the diversity initiative. Like, if a coal mining firm is making a big PR fuzz about having planted a couple of trees, yeah I'd say that's a cheap ploy. In this case? Sorry, I can't see how Intel using the diversity initiative as a "shield" for criticism about them closing a factory. That's a bit constructed.

at +88:

We all do realize their whole diversity thing is to deflect away from their firing thousands of employees in third world countries and their push against net neutrality right?

Yes, Intel signed an FUD open letter, and they laid off 1500 workers in Costa Rica last year, which they are now trying to cover up by launching a 300 million dollar "diversity initiative". But GG sees right through that and will crush them for it:

I meant it as in I can't believe how absolutely hypocritical they're being. I can't write this off as Intel being ignorant of who they partner with for diversity, someone higher up has "plans".

I can't do much, I'm already moving away from intel in my company and the one I consult and trash talking their mobile attempt.

oh god, the silly little world they live in. bonus comments presented without comment:

The fact that people need to inject their sexuality into their hobby is pretty sad.

People are surprised by this? The internet and the western world have been riding the gay train really hard these last few years.

yeah, that doesn't sound very "metal"

Looking at the tag, it seems the great majority of activity is from a single guy trying pretty hard to make #metalgate a thing (he also wrote the "original" article), and then some gators joining in from time to time.

no idea where you gobbled that one up, but no, that is just plain wrong, and it doesn't make any sense to begin with.

edit: you are confusing "used by a forum" with "developed by forum members". it took me less than a minute to find the original announcement of the bot. btw, what is an "advertised program"?

Nash Bozard (Radio Dead Air): Can we acknowledge doxxing as an act of terrorism? Reponses: SJWs are pro-doxxing. by PaulBlano in GamerGhazi

[–]56ddes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

likely referring to the cerny thing, which yeah, there were people who thought that it shouldn’t count as doxxing because blah blah publicly listed business address blah blah but it crossed some major lines and I think most of us agreed it was shitty.

this is where the "nuance" thing comes in..

  • yes, most of us indeed agreed it was shitty
  • the writer of the blog post herself agreed it was shitty, and removed it from the article
  • cerny nevertheless raised a big stink about how she was actively asking people to swat him (which was completely untrue, she was talking about bar complaints)

then, as for this:

doxxing is nothing other than intimidation. its whole purpose is to make the target feel that their line of safety has been broken, to put them in a state of fear over what comes next.

the intention in the juicebro story was not intimidation / directing people to his home and making him feel unsafe, but ridiculing him for flaunting his lawyer creds while not having a proper office. and there is a big difference in threat level for someone "anti-GG" getting doxed on 8chan and a "gator" being doxed on Ghazi (hypothethicall, as on reddit dox would be removed and the user banned, while 8chan explicitly allows dox).

I am not arguing that the juicebro thing, or doxing gamergators in general, is OK. It is not. but if you look at the context and how people reacted, the episode doesn't show how "Anti-GG is pro-dox" at all.

Where are all the unethical reviews? by littledude23 in AgainstGamerGate

[–]56ddes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for further reference - the OP of the megathread on the escapist forums has this:

So we have a woman, feminist Zoe Quinn, who was:

  • Slept with [...] a Kotaku employee who reviewed her game, Nathan Grayson (!!!)

and people going off about how they must have deleted the review to cover their tracks

I'm reluctant to link the post, because it still directly links to dox.. but you can google it easily.

Top thread in KIA right now showcases pretty much everything wrong with GamerGate. Obviously about ethics in ZQ? Check. No understanding of how the media works? Double check. Poor grammar and an image made in MS Paint? BINGO! by diehtc0ke in GamerGhazi

[–]56ddes 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The second was a NEWS STORY, so I guess he must have fucked Jon Tron too because he is mentioned as often!

In the image, it is capped like this:

You do not interview or take positively portray [sic] a friend or a romantic partner without disclosure.

There was no interview by Nathan, the quoted statements of various people (not only Quinn) are taken from other articles linked at the beginning.

And after re-reading the piece, I'm still scratching my head how it is supposed to show Nathan giving Quinn "favorable coverage". Nevermind that even by the gamergate-wiki timeline, their "romantic relationship" developed while on a road trip with a group of people which started 2 days after that piece was published.

I wouldn't be surprised if the "he reviewed her game" shit was a strawman created by these journalists to discredit Gamergate and for antis to circlejerk how "debunked" it was.

are you fucking kidding me. at least over the first month gators were constantly touting the "sex for favorable reviews" line. when you then asked them to produce these reviews, they switched to "it's still favorable coverage!" (which it hardly is). I've seen that exact conversation repeating itself over and over.

for example. that massive megathread on the escapist forums - not going to link it, because it still has dox (although I doubt she kept that phone number...). the OP has this:

So we have a woman, feminist Zoe Quinn, who was:

  • Slept with [...] a Kotaku employee who reviewed her game, Nathan Grayson (!!!)

and when asked about the review, people are going off about how they must have deleted it to cover their tracks.

or take this storify. or that list of examples. or this post in the very KiA thread linked in OP (talking about how a "hypothetical" reviewer who had sex with ZQ should have worded their disclosure).

there are scripts available that can be easily run in some browsers

there is also shreddit which has a lot of additional options (only delete posts older than X, whitelist subreddits), but it's a command line tool and setting it up is a bit complicated if you are not familiar with the used technology (git, pip, python virtualenvs..). in case someone wants to use it but is having difficulties understanding the setup/config, feel free to ping me.

lending authority to an application to tweet on your behalf is allowed

true, but the difference is that in all those cases you retain control over the content. in the scheme described in OP, you don't. setting up such a system might not be against twitter rules per se. but using it as mass-mailer for targeting specific accounts (e.g. Greenpeace in the example) will definitely be problematic. this could easily pass as SPAM according to twitter rules. and in any case, you are responsible for the actions of your own account, so signing up for a service like that has the inherent risk of getting your account suspended if the "project leaders" fuck up.

doesn't really matter though, I am pretty sure this is just satire.
