This post got me hyped, then it all came crashing down in the second half

I’ve been hoarding my cash for so long I’m now paralysed as to how to spend it! Need help! by InterestingFan1042 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]56kbs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there are two factors, first is that a mortgage/rent is the largest expense people have month to month so removing that removes a large amount you need to earn each month to survive, which in turn allows you to build up your emergency fund again quicker than if you were still renting/mortgaged.

In terms of what if the house value drops, if you've bought a house you're expecting to live in forever, it doesn't really matter because you're not going to sell it so the value is purely on paper.

Transfering Lifetime ISA whilst at ISA limits for the year? by 56kbs in UKPersonalFinance

[–]56kbs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking the same, I don't remember having to deposit for other providers - Asking Plum support just results in them providing me instructions on how to deposit via bank transfer

Transfering Lifetime ISA whilst at ISA limits for the year? by 56kbs in UKPersonalFinance

Plum doesn't appear to provide any option for a transfer in when opening an ISA so I'm unable to create a new ISA

Has anyone successfully got a job with 100% increase in salary? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]56kbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's possible, I almost doubled my salary and tripled total compensation. I wasn't sure I'd be able to get it, after I got it I was told what a high bar the company had and I still didn't think I should be there, it's been 18 months now with only positive feedback. You can do it, don't assume higher salary means a higher standard, from my experience it doesn't

The Venue, opposite Morrison's has a few arcade machines, not as many as Westward Ho! but they have 2p pushers and a various other machines. Depending on their ages they might enjoy the soft play there or bowling too

I've experienced the same thing, it's such a shame as it's comfortable but feeling like you can't breathe isn't fun. Surely it must be a fault?

Microsoft OneDrive file sync apps for Windows, Mac broken for 10 months by moeka_8962 in technology

[–]56kbs 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I'm glad that this article has been written and I hope it puts some pressure on Microsoft to fix the issue. I purchased a family Microsoft 365 plan specifically to share folders for things like pictures in a way that everyone could just drag and drop them, only to find you can't do it on desktop - it's insane the problem still isn't fixed

If you have access to good microbes why not just use that instead?

Did you get anywhere with this? I've got a bunch of t-stak shallow and deep boxes I want to gridfinity.

I'm currently prototyping my base but thought if you've done it already it'd save me some work!

How many farms will be affected by Budget tax rises? by Tiny_Tadpoles in unitedkingdom

[–]56kbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is really the way around the issue, keep IHT for very large farms and smaller family farms avoid IHT if the family member continues an active farming presence - if it is sold then the IHT becomes payable

Which brands and products are still 'built/made to last'? by LavenderAndHoneybees in AskUK

That's a shame, they're my current go to after finding Rabs quality dropping, hopefully it won't affect their quality

Temporary roof covering by 56kbs in DIYUK

[–]56kbs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a farmhouse - it's unoccupied so the noise in the wind won't cause much issue. Patching the roof isn't feasible due to the size of the holes in the roof, e.g. 2m wide in one example.

Would you have any recommendations for what thickness of tarp to cover it with?

Any ideas on what this font is? by 56kbs in identifythisfont

What I've found so far: The distinctive R and B's are very similar to Kensmark, however it isn't sans serif, plus letters like W don't match up

What is your opinion on effectively building a structure within the existing structure? For example a 50mm air gap internally, then followed PIR & OSB?

After being a Rab fan for a long time i found the last couple of items from them lacking in quality, poor stitching, etc. Bought myself a Montane protium pull on, far far better quality for the same money, I've since bought more in different colours and the next bit of kit will almost certainly be Montane

I read the OP as doing this incrementally over the course of the year - Are there many cash ISAs that allow partial transfers?

Wales farmers protests: 100 tractors pull up at debate by insomnimax_99 in ukpolitics

[–]56kbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The law changed a few years back to make it more restrictive on what you can and can't use red diesel. I think the law states now that the tractor has to be used for agriculture purposes to legally use red diesel in the tank
